Graded Wide Receiver Traits:

  • Durability: 9/10 (No injuries of note to mention and has produced for four years. Size could give teams slight pause here)
  • Hands: 7/10 (Has a couple concentration drops but others are more due to horrible quarterback play. Also uses body to catch a little too much and sometimes can struggle on high passes)
  • Release: 8/10 (Gets off the line of scrimmage with extreme urgency. But, changes it to catch defenders off guard. Beats press with hesitation and stutter steps as well as alternating release speeds. Only negative is we wish there was more film of him against tight press as his size could cause concerns there)
  • RAC Ability: 8/10 ( Uses speed effectively but also is very elusive as well. Very sudden on stop and starts and quick to change direction after the catch. Would like to see more than just a juke move but he can develop that)
  • Route Running: 8/10 (Has a decently diverse route tree from different alignments. On comeback routes though he tends to drift backwards and that could lead to interceptions or incomplete passes. Also runs in to get the ball on drag routes and loses yards. This will be key for the gauntlet drill)
  • Speed: 9/10 (His burst is elite so it is hard to tell just how fast he is. We are unsure if he has potential 4.2 speed but it is 4.3s at the worst)
  • Strength: 6/10 (His play strength is functional. He fights through traffic and contact for catches. Unsure about how it will be against super physical corners but he did not disappear vs ranked opponents)
  • Versatility: 9/10 (Played all over the formation at BC. Lined up outside and in the slot. Utilized on jet sweeps and quick screens for his rac ability. Also returned seven punts this year. We wish we could confirm he will survive against the press in the NFL before giving this a 10 but there is not a ton of tape on that)

Prospect Grade: 64/80; 80% (All Pro Potential)

Projected Draft Day: 1

Player Comparison: Antonio Brown

Player Summary:

For someone playing with as bad quarterback play as Flowers has in his college career, he looks amazing. He has amazing suddenness and cutting ability in routes that will make him difficult to cover short. He has elite speed that will be hard to keep up with down the field. He is very elusive after the catch and played all over the formation at BC so he should not be relegated to the slot only. He has some concentration drops and drifts on comeback routes and drag routes that need to be cleaned up. His size may be concerning to some but he is not thin and has a lot of moves to release to where he should be able to beat all different types of coverages at the next level. Flowers appears to be a hard worker and takes no plays off as evidenced by his willingness to block and sell routes. We have him comped to Antonio Brown and we do not take it likely. He looks so similar on tape to Brown it is uncanny. This may raise eyebrows but this is what our scouting tells us.
