Graded Quarterback Traits:

  • Accuracy: 6/10 ( He is extremely accurate on short throws. The deeper you get on the throw the more his accuracy suffers. He also struggles to properly locate touch passes)
  • Anticipation: 5/10 (Struggles to hit receivers in stride and throws to where they are versus where they will be especially on loft throws)
  • Arm Strength: 5/10 (He has enough arm strength for the short and intermediate throws and he can get it there in a hurry. On deep throws it is more of a problem. It looks like he could use his lower body more than he does which may help but it also just may be a limitation)
  • Mechanics: 7/10 ( His upper body is the same almost every time. He drops his shoulder every once in a while but it is not a ton. When throwing deep he has to learn to use his lower body more. He throws with a short step or sometimes even a flat platform and does not get enough on it.
  • Mobility: 7/10 ( Not an insane runner elusiveness wise. But, he is a weapon in the red zone as evidenced by his 10 rushing touchdowns. His yards rushing do not pop mainly because he keeps his eyes downfield at all times)
  • Pocket Presence: 7/10 (Keeps feet and body moving and alert. Able to feel when to move and when to stay in the pocket. Can get overwhelmed when the pocket is pushed from in front of him)
  • Poise: 7/10 (Incredibly tough for his size and will stay in the pocket and take hits. However, his commitment to keeping his eyes downfield had hurt him at times with interceptions when he tried to do too much and got hit while throwing. He has a ton of poise but needs to learn when to take off or throw it away)
  • Progressions: 9/10 ( It is hard to find a QB in this class that progresses through routes better than Bennett. He does have the rare occasion where he gets locked onto the first read but that is not too common)

Prospect Grade: 53/80; 66% (Starter Potential but age can be a negative factor)

Projected Draft Day: 2

Player Comparison: Doug Flutie

Player Summary:

We are not really sure why Bennett is not being taken more seriously as a prospect. Is he old? Yes but that did not affect Hendon Hooker when he was having the season he had. Is he undersized? Yes but that does not get brought up as much with Young ( and Stetson may even be bigger if you look at pictures of them standing together). We know it gets brought up for Bryce young yet it feels like it really is used to negate Bennett. Stetson has an average arm that can make the throws and could be even better if he learns to step into deep throws. He has accuracy issues as well on deep throws and loft throws but short and intermediate he is decent. Where he shines is his mobility (which is very underrated as he did not use it a ton besides in the red zone), his ability to go through progressions, and his poise. It is also worth noting that he has two national championships and stepped up on the biggest stages time and time again. It would not be surprising if a team takes a shot in the third on him, or he falls and yet ends up playing well anyways. Our comp was hard to come up with as there is no perfect match. He has elements of Tyrod, Heinecke, and others but he ultimately went with Doug Flutie. It also works because we could see Bennett lighting up the USFL or XFL like Flutie did in the CFL.
