Sam LaPorta is our favorite tight end prospect. We have him ranked as TE1 which may raise some eyebrows, but he has some traits that are unmatched in this class. You can find our Youtube breakdown here
LaPorta is by far the best route runner in this class. He runs very good routes for a wide receiver, let alone a tight end. He lined up in line before this past season, but was used out wide and in the slot a ton to cater to his strengths. He repeatedly beat corners with his physicality but also his double moves and route savvy.

The other thing LaPorta is elite at is his after the catch ability. He is shockingly elusive to match his athleticism. He also is hard to bring down in general and always tries to keep his feet moving through contact.

Now, it is worth mentioning that he does need some blocking work if the team that drafts him decides they want him in line. If they do not then he may be more of a scheme dependent player where he can play big slot or even out wide at times. He is a high effort player and does attempt his blocks every time (meaning it is not due to laziness). There is nothing to suggest he cannot get better at blocking, and has a great chance to become the best tight end in his class.
