Player: Treylon Burks
School: Arkansas
Height and Weight: 6’2”, 225
Combine Results:
- 40: 4.55
- Bench: 12 (Pro Day)
- Broad Jump: 35.5’ (Pro Day)
- Vertical Jump: 122’
- 3 Cone: 7.28
- Other Notes: He ran slower than people expected, but it also seems like his speed is longer and that it takes him a little bit more time to get into high gear. I would still bet he has the ability to take a screen and run by NFL defenses like he did against Alabama.
Strengths: Seems to be a pretty strong and elusive runner with the ball in hands, Outran all of Alabama defense on 3rd quarter touchdown, mostly catches with hands, uses stutter step, runs limited routes, willing to run block, back to back high point catches vs ole miss, seems to have very good speed and almost glides, seems to do a good job at finding soft spots in zones,
Weaknesses: Does he do a good job at beating press or does he just run by college corners? May seem to lack suddenness in route running, limited route tree ran at Arkansas (but that may have been their offense), does not dominate run blocks against corners even though he is willing
Projected Draft Day: Day 1
Player Comparison: AJ Brown
Player Summary: Burks is far from a finished product at wide receiver. Thanks to Arkansas’s offense, his route tree is not as diverse as many others in this class. He routinely ran go routes or flats or crossing without needing the nuances of great routes. He also did not clearly show (at least from what I saw) that he can beat press coverage routinely. However, the massive upside is clear. He has good size and a very strong build. His speed was slower than expected at 4.55, but it looks as if he glides when on the field versus high effort running. This may be able to cause deception in a good way at the next level. He catches everything with his hands and is good at finding the soft spot in the zones. His best trait, though, is highpointing catches. If you throw the ball up, Burks goes up and gets it at the spot where only he has access to it. He did this over and over this year and could be a great do it all receiver in the NFL, but especially in the red zone. We have his comp as AJ Brown. Height, weight and speed wise they compare almost identically. Not many players their size can catch a flat route and proceed to outrun the whole defense like Brown and Burks did in college. However, Brown was a more refined route runner. Yet, you could see similar numbers put up between the two, and he can beat up on corners with his size and speed as Brown has.
