Insight into All
Things NFL Draft

Prospect Profile: Matt Corral

Player: Matt Corral

School: Ole Miss

Height and Weight: 6’2”, 212

Combine Results:

  • Other Notes: Corral did not do anything at the combine besides measure. Only threw at pro day. Had accuracy issues at his pro day but moved around well with the ankle healing seemingly complete. Showed off his quick release and accuracy in the short game, but had issues when moving and throwing the deep ball.

Strengths: Has a quick release that works really well in the short passing game. Seems pretty athletic. Toughness. Throws a good spiral

Weaknesses: A lot of inaccurate deep throws, Takes a lot of unnecessary shots when running. Multiple injuries (specifically ankle) in college, Not the strongest arm (although it is not weak), seems to me he needs a specific RPO offense to be successful, saw multiple interceptions dropped in tape so may be more turnover prone than numbers suggest,

Projected Draft Day: Day 2 (but teams may reach on him in Day 1)

Player Comparison: More athletic Jimmy Garoppolo

Player Summary: Corral has the quickest throwing motion of any of the top quarterbacks. He has decent athleticism that was way overused at Ole Miss. Multiple injuries cause there to be some concern, especially when the injuries were to both ankles. Corral has good arm strength that is not amazing and throws a very good spiral. However, his ability to throw the deep ball is in question at the NFL level. In our eyes he needs a very specific offense to succeed in, which would be a lot of short game and RPO usage. When he scrambles and goes off script his accuracy lessens and his mechanics get weaker. He had accuracy issues at his pro day and while he is still recovering from injury, it is worth noting when he has no pads on, no rushers in his face, and no one covering the receivers. Our comparison is Jimmy Garoppolo. Like Jimmy, Corral will do best in a RPO heavy offense and may be pretty good in one. They both have quick releases, but they also will both have head scratching plays when they have to go off script. Corral is a better athlete than Jimmy G. Also, both are extremely professional in how they conduct themselves and you can be sure that, despite having shortcomings in his play on the field, Corral will conduct himself highly and be a leader.
