- Other Notes: He was one of the most bizarre stories to come out of the combine. After running a very good 40 time, he put on his track suit and stated that he was done for the day. This was an awful decision. A lot of the analysts said it was not a big deal, but there is a reason his interview after this was off camera and McGinest was left trying to explain the situation and not say anything damaging about the situation. For a player who had questionable interview answers in our eyes, and one who told teams he would be doing all the drills in these interviews, and one who also has effort concerns, this is a brutal decision. He was already going down on our draft board and this has him tumbling in our eyes.
Strengths: Can drop back into coverage, decent run defender, has decent speed off the edge,
Weaknesses: Does not seem to have much in his pass rushing move repertoire, tries to bull rush most of the time it looks like but does not have the size for that, production was sporadic and not consistent, effort concerns, questionable interviews, most highlights are against tight ends and running backs.
Projected Draft Day:Day 1
Player Comparison: Jadaveon Clowney
Player Summary: The comparison to Clowney is both in a positive and negative way. From a size perspective, both are very similar. They are also good run defenders and can be stand up rushers in the NFL, while also putting their hands in the dirt when needed. However, they are also negative in a similar way. Neither had the most elite pass rushing moves out of college, and they both involve a huge amount of assumed development. Thibodeaux seems to need a lot of development in pass rushing moves for a player that has been talked about as much as he has and brings potential to not live up to the hype, a la Clowney. The physical ability may be there, but the development is not. Combine this with a bad weekend in Indy and some very questionable decisions and may be more of a mid first. We predict him sliding, but it is just a question of how far and which team is willing to take a chance on someone is becoming riskier and riskier.
