- Other Notes: For a player who seems like he may be best as an end in the NFL, he actually worked out with the linebackers, and did not look out of place. Johnson tested pretty well, but really shined in the positional drills. He could have claimed to be a middle linebacker and you would have never known. He looked very athletic and fluid and showed a nice blend of speed and shower that shows on tape.
Strengths: Elite run defender, has good power and repeatedly overpowers tackles on film, very athletic and can drop into coverage, ability to play on the line off the edge and off ball
Weaknesses: Not a ton of pass rushing moves in his repertoire, sometimes get lost when it is a pass,
Projected Draft Day: Day 1
Player Comparison: Trey Flowers
Player Summary: It is hard to find a player that compares to Johnson in run defense, but Flowers is close. People may take this comp as a negative due to the fact that Flowers has barely been on the field for the last couple seasons, but this is a player that put together three straight seasons of six or more sacks, while being an elite run defender. Johnson has a lot of development to go in the pass rushing department, but he could approach double digit sacks while grading out as one of the better run defenders at the end. He also has the athleticism to drop into coverage if required, so he comes with positional flexibility. There is even the potential of him being deployed as more of a SAM linebacker depending on where he is drafted.
