Things NFL Draft

Prospect Profile: Carson Strong

Player: Carson Strong

School: Nevada

Height and Weight: 6’3”, 226

Combine Results:

  • Other Notes: Strong did not do any of the testing drills at the combine. He looked okay at the throwing drills, but also looked pretty bad in the senior bowl including an ugly interception.

Strengths: Very strong arm, quick release that is mostly the same every time, excels at throwing the deep ball, decently elusive in the pocket, seems to use cadence, makes pre snap adjustments, progresses through reads

Weaknesses: Knee injury that is reportedly no longer a concern but still worth noting, rarely sees deep safety and double coverage that could lead to him being an interception machine, not much roll out potential or running ability, throws off back foot or flat footed a fair amount, short and mid accuracy is iffy, true gunslinger mentality that did not get him in trouble against lower level talents, did not play high end competition, had some truly ugly interceptions, falls away on throws at times

Projected Draft Day: Day 2

Player Comparison: Jacobey Brisset

Player Summary: Carson Strong has a really good arm, and he does his best when using the arm to throw vertically. He uses cadence and makes adjustments at the line of scrimmage, so he is definitely capable of running an offense. His release is quick and he blends touch and bullet passes on the deep throws. He also does well progressing However, when throwing short and intermediate routes his accuracy is average at best. Strong also is not the best at looking off safeties and even seeing second coverages and could be an interception machine at the NFL. It is also a bit hard to project as he definitely did not play elite talent at all this season with only one ranked opponent and that was San Diego State. Our comp is Jacobey Brisset. I expect Strong to be a third round pick like Brisset, and I am projecting a similar career path. Strong will be a high level backup to start, with the chance to start after a year or two. Whether he takes advantage of this chance though, will determine if he will always be a high end backup or a passable starter.
