Graded Quarterback Traits:
- Accuracy: 5/10 (Due to different throwing motions and not an elite arm his accuracy is all over the place especially on deep throws, a lot of underthrows but short and intermediate are decent. There are times where he is very accurate and times where it seems like he cannot hit a throw IE against LSU)
- Anticipation: 4/10 (Throws where receivers are and not where they will be way too much especially on deep routes, this is an area that has to be improved)
- Arm Strength: 6/10 (not a bad arm, but definitely could use more juice that may be found with fixing lower body mechanics)
- Mechanics: 6/10 (upper body is good, he uses a lot of different throwing motions but not always in a beneficial way. Lower body is a mess . He has a tendency to throw off back foot and not step into throws and has a super wide base)
- Mobility: 6/10 (Decent athlete, uses it more to maneuver the pocket than take and does not make people miss)
- Pocket Presence: 8/10 (Knows when to scramble outside of the pocket and when to stay in, does not run into sacks or get blind sided much)
- Poise: 8/10 (Not afraid to take a hit or throw in the face of rushers but accuracy is compromised some and he does )
- Progressions: 6/10 (Did not need to go through progressions a lot with weapons group. This is something that can be learned and was better this season)
Prospect Grade: 49/80; 61% (Starter Potential)
Projected Draft Day: 1
Player Comparison: Tua Tagovailoa
Player Summary:
We personally do not get the hype for Bryce Young. He is listed at 6”0 194 and most people know both of those numbers are wrong. He has a good, but not great arm and messy lower-body mechanics. Hitting receivers in stride is an issue and his accuracy can be really good but also really bad. There is no way we would take him with the first overall pick. He reminds us of Tua. When you watch Tua his base is too wide, he also has an average arm, and his accuracy is sporadic. Young will have to go to a team with a plethora of weapons to succeed similar to Tua finally succeeding with two pro bowl receivers. If you need proof on to the concerns of Young and are skeptic of our assessment watch the LSU game this year. Buyer beware with Young unless you have everything in place and just need an above average game manager.
