- Other Notes: Hutchinson Tested pretty well for his size. He again did pretty well in the position drills, but he seemed to lack a little bend and appeared stiff at times. He may lack some bend, although his game is definitely focused on power over speed.
Strengths: Has a very good inside move, seems to have a few double moves, looks decent in run defense, high motor, likes to set up tackles by going outside many times then using inside move and catch them off guard.
Weaknesses: Not great at outside moves, looks better when having hand in the dirt versus standing up (maybe more of an end than edge), loses too many one on one blocks, does not have a large array of rushing moves (relies on one main one to win repeatedly)
Projected Draft Day: Day 1
Player Comparison: Cameron Jordan
Player Summary: Hutchinson has a lot of potential, and is in consideration for the first overall pick. I would say he is a very good prospect, but not elite though. He has good size and power, a very high motor, is competitive, and has a good inside pass rushing move that has a very high success rate. However, it does not mean he is without his flaws. He does not have a ton of speed to his game and the combine showed issues with his bendability. He played standing up a lot, but was not amazing at rushing outside of the tackles (as opposed to a lot of wins cutting inside). He has a limited number of pass rushing moves, and gets stood up more than you like from a power rusher. If he develops a few more pass rushing moves he could be upper level, but as of now he has double digit sack potential, with more risk than you would think. He is listed as an EDGE rusher but rarely dropped back in pass coverage and looked much better with his hand in the dirt as a DE vs being a stand up rusher. His best interest may be to transition off of a stand up role in the pros.
