Well that hold out did not take long. Nick Bosa has now eclipsed Aaron Donald for the highest paid defensive player in the league with his 5-year, $170 million extension ($122.5 guarantied). The reigning defensive player of the year cashes in on an 18.5 sack season to stay in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future. Besides missing most of his sophomore season, Bosa has been consistent and dominant since entering the league. He has 43 sacks in 51 games played and an absurd 106 QB Hits.
With the addition of Javon Hargrave and assumed health of Javon Kinlaw, Bosa could be looking to top the 20 sack mark and possibly even challenge the record. We expect him to continue his dominance and, at only 25, he could theoretically be a top end pass rusher throughout this whole contract. This is one of the rare times in any sport where a mega extension does not take a player past their prime. Bosa will be 32/33 after this is done and may even get a big second contract. Great deal for Bosa and not a bad deal for San Francisco to ensure their superstar is on the field week 1.
