The New York Giants signed Daniel Jones to a 4 year extension with an AAV of $40 million per year. In a concurring move, they franchise tagged Saquon Barkley. It is a lot of money for Jones, but at only 4 years, the contract is not necessarily disastrous. He becomes the first quarterback to have his 5th year option declined and then sign an extension in the following offseason with his original team.
Saquon is one of multiple backs to get the franchise tag, but we do not expect an extension to be signed past this season. Time and time again running back contracts have not worked out, so we see them taking a rookie this year to replace him after this season.
