Graded Wide Receiver Traits:
- Durability: 2/10 (Had major ankle surgery in the offseason and always seemed slow to get up after being tackled here. Not necessarily mentioning discipline in this category but it is worth noting Boutte missed a game for undisclosed reasons and the rumors are that he was asked to not come back to school so there is that. He also scrubbed social media after the FSU loss of anything LSU related so maturity may be a real concern)
- Hands: 2/10 (So many drops in almost every game. They do not even appear to be concentration drops as he body catches way too much)
- Release: 7/10 (Runs some pretty good routes with good cuts but tree is not diverse)
- RAC Ability: 7/10 (Pretty good at navigating space with the ball in his hands. Not overly elusive but definitely effective)
- Route Running: 7/10 (He has pretty good route running especially on short in and out breaks)
- Speed: 8/10 (Seems to have good speed and burst)
- Strength: 4/10 (Gets bullied on routes when getting contacted and has trouble fighting through it. Also awful at blocking because of this)
- Versatility: 6/10 (Has the RAC ability to take jet sweeps and maybe some backfield snaps. Outside use is in question due to his strength concerns and fighting through press. May be better suited for the slot roll)
Prospect Grade: 43/80; 54% (High end backup that could develop)
Projected Draft Day: 2
Player Comparison: Parris Campbell with maturity concerns
Player Summary:
Boutte is going to be an interesting scout for most teams. He has pretty good speed and route running with after the catch ability that could prove to be useful. However this season could not have gone worse for him and his draft stock. There were so many drops. Almost any game watched this year had a drop and some had many. It was so bad that he was going to return to school but reports indicate he was asked not to. His availability is a concern. He had major ankle surgery and just seemed to stay on the ground after every hit he took longer than you want. We also knocked him in this area for whatever happened that caused him to not return to school. We typically have not addressed character concerns in profiles but it is legitimate here. He scrubbed is insta early in the season, and has effort concerns. You may not find a more unwilling blocker at wide receiver. He has some traits to like and he can absolutely mature but there is a ton of risk here.
