Graded Position Traits:

  • Athleticism: 8/10 (Should test very well for size, but I would not call him a unicorn. Combine testing could dispute that though)
  • Burst: 9/10 (Elite burst for his size. Can win on the outside or inside with it. Only reason it is not a 10 is he uses it more sparingly then he should)
  • Durability: 6/10 (Seems to get tired and may need conditioning to play every down at the next level. Also dealt with a knee injury that cause him to miss games this year as well as an ankle injury)
  • Field Vision & Awareness:  9/10 (Has a very good idea of when to hold the edge and when to use burst to get through to the quarterback on a pass. Also has an uncanny tendency to move blockers in the direction of runs and get involved even when he is nowhere near the play. Also is able to diagnose what way the run is going and get to the right place)
  • Hands: 10/10 (Gets hands on lineman routinely and devastates them in different ways using his hands)
  • Pass Rushing Moves: 10/10 (Diverse pass rushing moves including swipes, pulls, rips, chops, bullrushes, and more)
  • Run Defense: 7/10 (Is definitely not a liability, but may struggle at times with being a factor on every running play)
  • Strength: 9/10 (Burst helps to catch lineman off guard and lead to overpowering them. Very strong and can take on double teams)
  • Tackling: 8/10 (Seems to not let you go once he gets his hands on you. Curious about arm length and tackle radius and it could slightly limit him)
  • Versatility: 10/10 (Can play all over the line both stand up and in the dirt and played pretty much every technique)

Prospect Grade: 86/100; 86% (Multiple All Pro Potential)

Projected Draft Day: 1 (Top 5)

Player Comparison: Jonathan Allen

Player Summary:

The hype is real for Carter. He has insane burst for his size, a very developed pass rushing set, wild strength, and can play all over the line. The only red flag is his health as he has multiple lower leg injuries in his career. We have him comped to Jonathan Allen, one of the best pass rushing DTs in the league, but the truth is Carter could be even better. He is a different player than Aaron Donald, so you may need to look to the NFL of yesteryear for a truly accurate comparison, but Allen is very good.
