We are grading and giving some thoughts on some of the bigger signings in the 2024 NFL Free Agency signings. Some of these are new deals for new teams and others are resigns.
Tyron Smith signs with New York Jets 1 Year/ $6.5 Million
Grade: B
Smith has not finished a full season since 2015, but with a $6.5 million base, the risk is low. The Jets waited to address the position, but at least they got someone that can play at a high level when healthy.
De’Vondre Campbell signs with San Francisco 49ers 1 Year/
Kamren Curl signs with Los Angeles Rams 2 Years/ $8.75 Million
Grade: A
Curl is coming in on a very affordable contract, at only 25 years old, and with decent production. Not much more to be said.
Hollywood Brown signs with Kansas City Chiefs 1 Year/ $7 Million
Grade: C
The Chiefs receiver room was a bunch of brick handed XFLers (Minus Rashee Rice), and the Chiefs still won the super bowl. So what do they do? Go out and get another shaky handed receiver. Hollywood is clearly a step up from what they have in the room opposite Rice, but he is far from sure-handed. He also has started in every game only once in his career. It is only a 1 year deal, but this does not solve anything for their room.
Devin White signs with Philly 1 Year/ $7.5 Million
Grade: C+ (With a lot of upside)
The knee jerk reaction was that it was a great signing, but the coverage rankings for White are not kind. He is still an athletic freak (something they sorely lacked last year), and one of the most effective blitzers at the position, but he is no sure thing. If they were looking for this year only, Wagner likely would have been a better signing. However, White is only 26, and could have just been disgruntled in Tampa, so this could pay off big time.
Curtis Samuel signs with Buffalo Bills 3 Years/ $24 Million
Grade: D
If he is playing WR3 this is a lot of money. If he is playing WR2, that is not a good sign for Buffalo. We do not get this signing at all. If you need another receiver, guys like Renfrow, Boyd, and Mike Williams are all still out there. They offer more upside than Samuel and will likely sign for similar AAV. Also, does Khalil Shakir not offer a similar skillset?
DJ Wonnum signs with Carolina Panthers 2 Years/ $12.5 Million
Grade: A+
Super under the radar signing for Carolina. You may surprised to know that Burns and Wonnumhad very similar production last year. Now, we are not saying Wonnum is the same caliber of player. But, Carolina traded burns, got picks, and replaced him for almost $25 million less per year.
Arik Armstead signs with Jacksonville Jaguars 3 Years/ $51 Million
Grade: D+
This feels like an overpay for Armstead. He is a decent player, but has been injured the past 2 years. He is coming off of surgery and joins a far worse situation than he had in San Fran. Also, what is the upside overall? He has had more than 6 sacks once in his career, is not a young intriguing prospect, and appears to be breaking down. What makes it worse is there were other interior defenders that signed far better value deals.
DJ Reader signs with Detroit Lions 2 Years/ $27.25 Million
Grade: C+
A good signing, but was it a need? The Lions already had a pretty good run defense and you wonder if this money could have put towards somewhere else.
Vonn Bell signs with Cincinnati Bengals 1 Year/ $6 Million
Grade: B+
The Bengals bring back one of their own after a short stint in Carolina. It is not a hefty price tag and should pair really well with Dax and Geno.
Sheldon Rankins signs with Cincinnati Bengals 2 Years/ $24.5 Million
Grade: B+
Rankins and Hill should provide more pass rush from the interior for the Bengals. Rankins had 6 sacks last year, and will be looking to keep up that level of production as well as opening up the outside pass rush.
Eric Kendricks signs with Dallas Cowboys 1 Year/ $3.5 Million
Grade: A
Kendricks should take over immediately for the Cowboys defensive leader. He still plays at a high level and has good production. He is on the older side, but it is only a one year deal. Congrats Cowboys, you are on the board.
Jonah Williams signs with Arizona Cardinals 2 Years/ $30 Million
Grade: C- (With maybe some upside)
This is a very affordable contract, but Williams has given up 8 or more sacks in the last 3 years. It is worth noting he was learning RT last year and could be better with more experience, but at the end of the day it is a 2 year deal.
Bobby Wagner signs with Washington Commanders 1 Year/ $8.5 Million
Grade: A+
Wagner had 183 tackles last year. Yes, you read that right. Wagner at age 32/33 was All Pro 2nd team, and his production continues to be consistent. He is an impressive veteran who still plays at an elite level. Washington continues the impressive turnaround with this new group.
Calvin Ridley signs with Tennessee Titans 4 Years/ $92 Million
Grade: D (With some upside we guess)
Ridley was worse than the stats suggested last year. He is also older than most realize at 29. He said he feels younger, but age does not lie. This is an insane contract for him, it just is. Wide receiver was for sure a need, but why not just trade for someone like Higgins or Keenan Allen at that point. This could haunt the Titans. There is a slim chance he was just rusty with drops last year, but again at 29, there is not a ton of room to turn it around.
CJGJ signs with Philadelphia Eagles 3 Years/ $33 Million
Grade: B+
Gardner-Johnson returns to Philly after a year stop in Detroit. The truth is Philly should have never let him leave. He brings back and edge and physicality that the defense sorely lacked last year. The only reason this grade is not higher is due to his injury concerns.
Jordan Poyer signs with Miami Dolphins 1 Year/ $2 Million
Grade: A
You are paying one of the better safeties available pennies. Yes he is aging and struggled with injuries, but it is nothing. It is also a bonus you signed him from an inner division rival
Willie Gay signs with New Orleans Saints 1 Year/ $5 Million
Grade: A
The Saints need to save money, and they do so here. Gay joins Davis and Werner to form a very good linebacker core. This one could pay off with some hefty production for the Saints.
Danielle Hunter signs with Houston Texans 2 Year/ $49 Million
Grade: A
This is a hefty contract, but only for 2 years. Hunter could explode in Houston under Ryans. There is legitimate potential for a 20 sack season here. He also brings a veteran presence (along with Autry) that the line could use. Lastly, we cannot think of a better player to teach and mentor Will Anderson.
Josey Jewell signs with Carolina 3 Years/ $22.75 Million
Grade: D+
Why pay this much for a linebacker that has struggled to stay healthy? There are other players out there with loads more upside (Isaiah Simmons and Jerome Baker for example) that will likely signs for less than what they just paid Jewell. It is hard to justify this signing.
A’Shawn Robinson signs with the Carolina Panthers 3 Years/ $22.5 Million
Grade: C-
Robinson is a good run stuffer, but was he so big a need on this team that they needed to pay $7.5 million per year for a DT 2? Unless Derrick Brown is about to be moved this is a slight head scratcher.
Josh Uche resigns with the New England Patriots for 1 Year/ $3 Million
Grade: A+
The Patriots fleeced Uche. We know he got bigger offers elsewhere but he decided to stay with the team that drafted him. We hope he has a great year and ends up getting a nice extension from the team. For now, New England is paying $3 million for a player that could be a sleeper for 10 sacks.
Kenny Moore resigns with Indianapolis Colts 3 Years/ $30 Million
Grade: A-
Kenny Moore is one of, if not the best nickels in the league. He is also a great story for the Colts and they keep one of their longest tenured players on the roster.
Patrick Queen signs with Pittsburgh Steelers 3 Years/ $41 Million
Grade: B
The actual contract is pretty good, and Queen is only 24. We have wonders about the scheme fit and Queen being able to be “the guy”. Maybe Cole Holcomb does come back and they form a really good 1-2. But if he retires doe to the injury, Queen will be asked to take on a lot.
Drew Lock signs with New York Giants 1 Year/ $5 Million
Grade: A
Drew Lock provides something the Giants have lacked behind Daniel Jones for a while; a legitimate threat to beat him out. We expect it to be an open competition between the two (as the Giant’s other moves suggest they may not be drafting QB in the 1st) and Lock could legitimately win. If he does start they’re only paying him $5 million. If he pushes Jones to be a better version of himself, thats a small price to pay.
Derrick Henry signs with Baltimore Ravens 2 Years/ $16 Million
Grade: A
Henry has remained insanely consistent averaging over 4 yards per carry despite Tennessee regressing in every way. A worse o-line, rookie QBs, and stacked boxes all faced him. Now, Baltimore brings in the King in a fit that felt too good to happen. It is only a 2 year deal on Baltimore’s side, and Henry could be in easily his best situation as a pro. If his age shows, its a 2 year deal.
Darnell Mooney signs with Atlanta Falcons 3 Years/ $39 Million
Grade: B (But potential to be better)
Mooney has been somewhat up and down in his career, but that was also in a terrible Bears offense. He could be worth the AAv of this contract, but time will tell. We are also glad Atlanta is addressing receiver opposite of Drake London finally.
Aaron Jones signs with Minnesota Vikings 1 Year/ $7 Million
Grade: A
This is sad as Ty Chandler truthers, as we were high on him when he was in the draft and felt like this was finally his chance. He impressed at the end of last season, and he should still be part of a 1-2 punch with Jones, but still is sad. That being said, from a deal standpoint and a pettiness standpoint, this is great. Jones gets the Packers twice, and the Vikings get a low risk high upside back for a year.
Darious Williams signs with Los Angeles Rams 3 Years/ $22.5 Million
Grade: B
The Rams bring Williams back to help one of the worst secondaries in football. He is not the splashiest move, but will still help.
Kenneth Murray signs with Tennessee Titans 2 Years/ $15.5 Million
Grade: B
John Simpson signs with New York Jets 2 Years
Grade: ? (Waiting for money amount to be announced)
Damien Lewis signs with Carolina Panthers 4 Years/ $53 Million
Grade: A+
It seems like the new group is serious about protecting Young. This is vital to see what they have in him so good for Carolina for building around your young qb that you gave up a king’s ransom for.
Nick Allegretti signs with Washington Commanders 3 Years/ $16 Million
Grade: A
A former 7th round pick, Allegretti performed admirably in the Super Bowl, even with a torn UCL. He only allowed 1 sack in 300+ snaps, and has a lot of upside for a very affordable deal. Washington could have gotten a steal here.
Zack Moss signs with Cincinnati Bengals 2 Years/ $8 Million
Grade: A
Moss looked excellent in relief of Taylor while in Indy. Zack Moss joins Cincinnati on a very team friendly deal with a ton of upside. We see him pairing very well with Chase Brown to have a great rb duo.
Yetur Gross Matos signs with San Francisco 49ers 2 Years/ $18 Million
Grade: C
Gross-Matos did have 4.5 sacks last year, but has also not really lived up to his draft billing. That being said, San Fran is a place where he could flourish. Even if he does, $9 million a year for a player that is unproven seems steep.
Leonard Williams signs with Seattle Seahawks 3 Years/ $64.5 Million
Grade: C+
The Seahawks traded a decent amount for Williams so they had to extend him, but this feels pricey. Williams is a great player, there is no denying that. But, at his age, is he worth over $20 million per year?
Jacoby Brissett signs 1 Year/ $8 Million
Grade: B
The actual signing is pretty good, but if this signals the Patriots are taking a qb, it is a mistake. This team needs so much help in the skill position group that a rookie qb will not fix.
Azeez Al-Shaiir signs with Houston Texans 3 Years/ $34 Million
Grade: C+
Ryans gets one of his guys from his San Fran days, and the Texans get a new starter next to Christian Harris. The issue we have with this is that Ryans picked Blake Cashman off the street basically and had him playing high levels of football. We trust Ryans, but it feels like $10 million a year at LB is not the best position to invest in for Houston.
Mike Onwenu signs with New England Patriots 3 Years/ $57 Million
Grade: C+
Noah Fant signs with Seattle Seahawks 2 Years/ $21 Million
Grade: B
Fant has to produce more than what he has so far for Seattle. This is not necessarily his fault, and a regime change could signal better things to come for Fant. If he gets a larger target share, this could be a good value signing.
Jordyn Brooks signs with Miami Dolphins 3 Years/ $26.25 Million
Grade: C+
We like Brooks, but Miami let Jerome Baker go just to pay another linebacker? We initially thought this may have meant Channing Tindall was finally ready, but who knows now.
Austin Ekeler signs with Washington Commanders 2 Years/ $8.34 Million
Grade: B-
This is very affordable so it is hard to knock Washington here. Ekeler likely plays the pass catching role, as he does not seem to have a ton of tread left as an every down back, but he still should have value.
Brian Burns traded to New York Giants signs 5 Years/ $141 Million
Grade: D+
The trade itself was very affordable for New York. If they stick with Daniel Jones and Drew Lock and take a receiver, this trade will be better. Trading for Burns is a compete now move that a rookie QB would not fit. The contract is hefty for Burns, but the Giants are building up a pretty good D-Line that could help mask the secondary issues. One thing to note and why this is slightly worrisome. Burns only had an 11.1 % Pass Rush Win Rate which was not even in the top 20 in the league. To be fair it was on a lowly Panthers line, but this move may be riskier than anticipated.
Will Dissley signs with Los Angeles Chargers 3 Years/ $14 Million
Grade: D
Welp you know Greg Roman is in town. Will Dissley is somehow still under 27, but is he even a good TE2 at this point?
Frankie Luvu signs with Washington Commanders 3 Years/ $36 Million
Grade: B
Luvu has been underrated for a while now, so it is good to see him getting paid. Was Washington’s biggest need a linebacker? Not at all but they continue to pay for free agents and signal a new change is in the air.
Zadarius Smith signs with Cleveland Browns 2 Years/ $23.5 Million
Grade: C+
Zadarius did not have the season most in Cleveland thought. Though, Myles Garrett won DPOY so maybe that was enough. Smith dealt with injuries again, so it is unknown if this is a pattern moving forward or not. It is only a 2 year deal, but it seems like Cleveland could have upgraded the running mate to Garrett in this free agency for a similar AAV.
Mack Wilson signs with Arizona Cardinals 3 Years/ $12.75 Million
Grade: B
This just feels like a move Philly would have made in years past. An athletic linebacker who has not panned out the way some had thought, but who has the upside to still be productive.
Chidobe Awuzie signs with Tennessee Titans 3 Years/ $36 Million
Grade: C
Justin Jones signs with Arizona Cardinals 3 Years/ $31.165 Million
Grade: B
Jones is an ascending talent who put up 4.5 sacks to go with his run stuffing ways. Arizona needed a big man in the middle of the line and they got it on a decent contract.
Gardner Minshew signs with Las Vegas Raiders 2 Years/ $25 Million
Grade: B
If Minshew is their starter for now, this is a great deal. If they go and draft a rookie that starts immediately, this is a very expensive backup.
Leonard Floyd signs with San Francisco 49ers 2 Years/ $20 Million
Grade: A-
Floyd continues to produce every step of the way, and now steps into a situation that should allow him to be the best version of himself. Unlike the Gross-Matos signing, this one makes so much sense for both parties.
Geno Stone signs with Cincinnati Bengals 2 Years/ $14 Million
Grade: A
Stone had a whopping 7 picks in11 games started, and Cincinnati got him for $7 million a year.
Gus Edwards signs with Los Angeles Chargers 2 Years/ $6.5 Million
Grade: A
It is $3.25 million per year for a back that has been successful in Greg Roman’s offense. He should not be expected to be the lead back, but still will be a meaningful contributor.
Grover Stewart signs with Indianapolis Colts 3 Years/ $39 Million
Grade: C
Stewart is a good player, but $13 million a year seems heavy compared to what other tackles have signed for. Combining this with the fact that Stewart is 30, and this is contract that is just okay.
Devin Singletary signs with New York Giants 3 Years/ $16.5 Million
Grade: B+
Singletary has looked really good in part time roles for the last couple years. If the Giants plan to replace Barkley is in the form of multiple backs, Singletary is a great start.
Denico Autry signs with Houston Texans 2 Years/ $20 Million
Grade: A
Autry quietly had 11.5 sacks last year. Imagine what the Texans can do with him. He also adds a big veteran prescience to the d-line.
Jeff Okudah signs with Houston Texans 1 Year/ $4.75 Million
Grade: A+
This is very low risk, but extremely high reward. A prove it deal to a former top 5 pick with a defensive guru as the head coach could be just what Okudah needs.
Bilal Nichols signs with Arizona Cardinals 3 Years/ $21 Million
Grade: B-
Robert Hunt signs with Carolina Panthers 5 Years/ $100 Million
Grade: C
Hunt is a good player, but he just played the fewest snaps of his career. Carolina was going to need to overpay to get talent there, but even this seems too high.
Blake Cashman signs with Minnesota Vikings 3 Years/ $25.5 Million
Grade: C+
The upside is there, as Cashman was one of the best coverage linebackers in football last year. But, he has been injured constantly and one wonders how much of his success was Ryans scheme
Xavier McKinney signs with Green Bay Packers 4 Years/ $68 Million
Grade: C-
This is a HEFTY price for McKinney in a year where there should be a ton of value on the day 2 safeties in the draft. There are also other free agents who have signed for less per year that may have been better options.
Andrew Van Ginkel signs with Minnesota Vikings 2 Year/ $20 Million
Grade: B+
A ton of positional flexibility should allow Van Ginkel to be a chess piece.
Jon Runyan signs with New York Giants 3 Years/ $30 Million
Grade: A
Sean Murphy Bunting signs with Arizona Cardinals 3 Years/ $25.5 Million
Grade: A
Saquon Barkley signs with Philadelphia Eagles 3 Years/ $37.75 Million
Grade: B-
Barkley steps into the best situation he has had, and could be a legitimate threat to top 200 all purpose yards. That being said, the Eagles O-Line, and the fact that Swift ran for 1000 yards last year has you wondering if this was an overpay or a necessity. Barkley is more talented than Swift, but again the running game was not the issue for the birds last season. We don’t hate the move, but don’t love it either.
Antonio Gibson signs with New England Patriots 3 Years/ $11.25 Million
Grade: A
Gibson should have a lot left in the tank and lots of upside. He is a far better pairing with Rhamondre than Elliot, and could flourish with the correct usage.
Kirk Cousins signs with Atlanta Falcons 4 Years/ $180 Million
Grade: D-
Oof! This is rough. Cousins is obviously an upgrade which is why it is not a F. However, he is 35, coming off a torn Achilles, and has not proven sustained success when it matters most. We like Cousins, but this is a wild contract. Cousins is a better option than someone like Jameis or Russ or Minshew, but is he worth over $30 million more per year? Would trading for Fields have been a better option? These are questions Atlanta will likely be pondering for years to come.
Baker Mayfield Resigns with Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3 Years/ $100 Million
Grade: A+
This is solely for Baker. We love to see his redemption story, and subsequent dysfunction in Carolina and Cleveland, continue. We hope he continues to be good for Tampa, but it is a great story either way.
Russell Wilson Signs with Pittsburgh Steelers 1 Year/ $1.2 Million
Grade: A+
Even if Pickett beats him out (not likely), who cares. He is taking the vet minimum while bankrupting the Broncos. You are telling us Kirk Cousins with his contract, or Darnold at $10 million, are better deals and signings?
Tony Pollard signs with Tennessee Titans 3 Years/ $24 Million
Grade: B-
Pollard fell off hard when asked to become an every-down back. He was at his best when paired with Zeke, and could return to form as a 1B to Tyjae Spears.
D’Andre Swift signs with Chicago Bears 3 Years/ $24 Million
Grade: B
This sucks as Roschon Johnson fans, but Swift and Johnson could form a dynamic duo. Swift comes on a very reasonable deal with some of the highest upside of any back in this free agent class. This deal is low risk high reward.
Josh Jacobs signs with Green Bay Packers 4 Years/ $48 Million
Grade: C-
Jacobs certainly is talented, but is he more talented than Aaron Jones? We are not so sure. Yes Jacobs is younger, but at $12 million a year, the Packers are paying a premium for devalued position.
Michael Pittman Jr resigns with Indianapolis Colts 3 Years/ $70 Million
Grade: A+
This feels like a steal for Indy, and Pittman, as long as he continues to develop and grow, could be a bargain on this contract.
Mike Evans resigns with Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2 Years/ $41 Million
Grade: A+
This is purely for the reason that Evans needs to be a Buc for life. He is on a historic pace and Tampa should, when it is all said and done, be able to claim he played his whole career for the team. He also is still highly productive.
Gabe Davis signs with Jacksonville Jaguars 3 Years/ $39 Million
Grade: C+
Gabe Davis is a bit of a risk. He has a lot of production from Buffalo, but also a lot of drops and disappearances. Was he just misused in Buffalo? Does he have more upside than he has shown? We may find out if he gets far more targets in Jacksonville.
Kendrick Bourne resigns with New England Patriots 3 years/ $19.5 Million
Grade: C
Bourne is a good player to have in your room. He is ideally a number 3, but is coming off a torn ACL. Resigning him is not necessarily a bad move, but also does not move the needle for them. They need to make far bigger moves with their weapons to help whoever is quarterbacking this team.
Dalton Schultz resigns with Houston Texans 3 Years/ $36 Million
Grade: B+
We are huge Schultz fans, and are happy he finally got his due. He is one of the most reliable targets at the position and a great blocker. Houston gets back a dependable target for CJ Stroud, and Schultz finally gets his contract.
Hunter Henry resigns with New England Patriots 3 Years/ $27 Million
Grade: C+
Henry has the potential to be one of the better production tight ends in the NFL. Unfortunately, in the lackluster Patriots offense of years past, he has not flourished. With a new regime that has a new oc that allowed David Njoku to fully develop, Henry should be a focal point. Another team like Washington that is not ready for a rookie qb, New England may do it anyway and Henry could be a safety blanket.
Colby Parkinson signs with Los Angeles Rams 3 Years/ $22.5 Million
Grade: D-
We are not sure if we are missing something with this signing, but it is a head scratcher. Parkinson has been nothing special in his career thus far and, even if he is expected to start with upside, this feels like he got paid far more than he should have.
Johnu Smith signs with Miami Dolphins 2 Years/ $10 Million
Grade: A
Smith fits exactly what the Dolphins do and adds a pass catching threat at tight end which was nonexistent for them last year.
Andre James resigns with Las Vegas Raiders 3 Years/ $24 Million
Grade: B-
Lloyd Cushenberry III signs with Tennessee Titans 4 Years/ $50 Million
Grade: A-
Tyler Biadaz signs with Washington Commanders 3 Years/ $30 Million
Grade: A+
Washington desperately needs help on that line and the new group has been masterful in the rebuilding of it. Biadaz is a good starter and they got him on a very good deal. We still do not think Washington should go QB in the draft, but if they continue rebuilding, they could draft someone to sit and let Howell rebuild his trade value.
Kevin Dotson resigns with Los Angeles Rams 3 Years/ $48 Million
Grade: C-
Ezra Cleveland resigns with Jacksonville Jaguars 3 Years/ $28.5 Million
Grade: B
Jonah Jackson signs with Los Angeles Rams 3 Years/ $51 Million
Grade: B+
Jackson has been very good for Detroit…when healthy. He has missed his fair share of games, so this contract is slightly risky, but the potential is there.
Graham Glasgow resigns with Detroit Lions 3 Years/ $20 Million
Grade: B-
Glasgow has dealt with his share of injuries, but played almost 90% of the snaps for Detroit last year. If he is able to stay healthy this could be a very good value signing.
Chris Jones resigns with Kansas City Chiefs 5 Years/ $158.75 Million
Grade: B
Chris Jones is one of the best interior D Lineman of his generation. So keeping him on the Chiefs and keeping his cap hit low this year was important. However, after this year his cap hits will be $34.5 Million or higher which is a hefty sum.
Justin Madubuike resigns with Baltimore Ravens 4 Years/ $98 Million
Grade: B+
It certainly seems like Madubuike is an ascending player, but his sack total last year almost tripled his previous high. If this is the new norm, this is a great contract. If he regresses, it’s not awful but not great.
Christian Wilkins signs with Las Vegas Raiders 4 Years/ $110 Million
Grade: A
This is an expensive contract, but a massive signing for a team that desperately wants to right a ship that has been sinking for a decade. Wilkins becomes one of the highest paid D-Lineman, but he is certainly deserving of it and the Raiders get one of the most likeable players in the league. Vegas has lacked an interior presence for years, and Wilkins will do wonder for Maxx Crosby.
Bryce Huff signs with Philadelphia Eagles 3 Years/ $51.1 Million
Grade: B
We guess there is fire where there was once smoke in the Reddick and Sweat trade rumors. It would seem that Nolan Smith will start opposite of Huff in the OLB spot. Sweat can still be a part of that rotation, but it seems like Reddick has too much star power to be a rotational piece and is likely on the move. As for Bryce Huff, great for him for getting the biggest deal ever for an undrafted player, you love to see it.
Jonathan Greenard signs with Minnesota Vikings 4 Years/ $76 Million
Grade: B-
Greenard is an ascending player who signed for a good, but still affordable AAV. This grade could vary solely on what Danielle Hunter signs for. Minnesota is in limbo right now, losing Cousins, maybe Jefferson, signing Darnold, and signing Aaron Jones despite committing to Ty Chandler. They have an opportunity to bring back a homegrown player in Hunter and they went in another direction. This move could easily be the better decision, but time will tell.
Dorance Armstrong signs with Washington Commanders 3 Years/ $33 million
Grade: B
Dorance Armstrong has been very productive as a rotational pass rusher, and is one of Dan Quinn’s guys from Dallas. If he is going to be playing every down this is a good deal. If he still will be used in a rotational role, this may be a tad pricey.
Dru Tranquill resigns with Kansas City Chiefs 3 Years/ $19 Million
Grade: B+
Tranquill has been one of the more underrated linebackers in the NFL. He took a one year prove it deal with KC last year, and is rewarded with a Super Bowl ring and an extension.
Darnell Savage signs with Jacksonville Jaguars 3 Years/ $21.75 Million
Grade: D
We just do not love this. Even if savage has been good, he has missed so much time due to injury. It looks even worse compared to what to what other safeties have signed for. Jeremy Chinn is another oft injured safety who has far more upside and is cheaper.
Brandon Jones signs with Denver Broncos 3 Years/ $20 Million
Grade: A
If the Broncos get the player that finished off the season in Miami, this is an absolute steal. Jones was great in coverage towards the end of the season, and is an ascending player.
Taylor Rapp resigns with Buffalo Bills 3 Years/ $10.625 Million
Grade: B
The Bills had to cut a lot of people to deal with their cap issues, so if they are able to get quality starts from Rapp at his AAV, that is a big win. If he is not so great, they are not paying him a ton.
Kevin Byard signs with Chicago Bears 2 Years/ $15 Million
Grade: C+
Byard should still have some left in the tank, but it sure did not look like he made much of a difference while in Philly. At the end of the day it is a 2 year deal so it is not a big deal if it does not work out.
