At this rate, whether you are a huge college football fan or not, you’ve probably heard about the history of players speeding and driving recklessly at the University of Georgia. If somehow you haven’t heard about the slew of players being stopped by police, at the very least we would assume you heard about the tragic car accident in January 2023 that took the lives of Georgia Offensive Lineman Devin Willock and Staffer Chandler LeCroy, and seriously injured Staffer Tory Bowles.
You’d think the Georgia players would learn from the accident to stop speeding and reckless driving, but players continue to get stopped for these issues. The following players have been in the news for their driving:
- Junior Transfer Running Back Trevor Etienne
- Freshman Wide Receiver Sacovie White
- Redshirt Freshman Offensive Tackle Bo Hughley
- Junior Defensive End/Outside Linebacker Mykel Williams
- Senior Linebacker Smael Mondon Jr.
- Senior Safety David Daniel-Sisavanh
The sad part is that this isn’t all of them. Since January 2023, Georgia players have accumulated 24 different driving related incidents. Etienne, White, Hughley, Mondon all happened within the last like 2-3 months.
There have been fines, suspensions, etc, but to our knowledge there has never been a player kicked off the team for one of these incidents… until now.
It was reported yesterday that Senior Safety David Daniel-Sisavanh has been dismissed from the team for his incident back in February. Daniel-Sisavanh was charged with reckless driving which included him evading police on the Interstate.
Daniel-Sisavanh wasn’t some bench player that Georgia decided to dismiss to use as an example. Although never a starter to this point he has been a vital piece on Georgia’s Special Teams units as well as a higher-end defensive backup and role player in dime packages. The dismissal probably stems more from him evading police than anything else, but hopefully this sends a message to the rest of the Georgia team for their own safety.
Hopefully this puts at least a little fear into the other players to think twice before speeding or driving recklessly. Clearly the fines and minor suspensions, and somehow even death in the program haven’t scared the players, but maybe losing their spot on the team will do it. If cases continue to happen don’t be surprised if Georgia does start dismissing more players or at the very least upping the current punishments.
