Denver Broncos Trade for Sean Payton

The rare trade for a coach is happening this week with the Denver Broncos trade for Sean Payton. If there was ever a coach to do this for, Payton is certainly an option. He has been to the biggest show of them all, he has coached one of the greatest quarterbacks of this era, and he should be a massive improvement over Hackett.

While he will be a much better option for the Broncos, we cannot help but to think this is a desperate move by the Denver Broncos to try and right the trade for Russell Wilson that has been disastrous. Look, you have to commit to him there is no way around it. And bringing in Payton is definitely a plus. But, giving up a first and second for a coach is not great. Payton could turn around and retire again a year later if things do not work out.

Can this move workout? It absolutely can. Payton could instill a system that benefits Russel Wilson and get this offense to reach the potential everyone thought it capable of. He ran a very successful offense with the Saints and an undersized quarterback named Drew Brees, ever heard of him? However, there was a lot of drama in Denver this year, most of it centered on Russel Wilson becoming a season long joke for multiple reasons. Hopefully, Sean Payton can right the ship

Denver is approaching super bowl or bust territory. It feels like they are doing their best to follow the Los Angeles Rams blueprint on building a super bowl contender. Trading all of their picks away instead of drafting. This worked for the Rams, and was worth it, but they are also in disarray one year later. They are one of the rare teams to go from winning the Super Bowl to not even coming close to the playoffs. Denver is hoping to go from worst in the division to playoff bound next season. The roster certainly has talent, but this is a tall order. This season alone may tell if this trade is a disaster and destroys the franchise’s future, or is all worth it for that elusive Super Bowl victory.
