Tyler Nubin Player Summary:
The Positives
- Aggressive… Comes screaming down hill in the run game
- Especially in Nebraska game
- Man coverage seems pretty strong
- Play in Cover 2/2 High looks are better than single high
The Negatives
- Needs a better understanding of run fit/gap filling
- Could work on taking better angles at times
- Overall, not a super rangy safety from single high. He has made a few nice plays from single high, but a good chunk of his picks look like they came from 2 high looks
- Lacks the speed to recover when poor angles taken
- Tackling is inconsistent. Good tackling at times, and very worrisome at others. Overall, okay, but semi-worrisome. Definitely room for improvement
Tyler Nubin is a good safety prospect in this year’s class. We think he could clean up a few things, particularly as a run defender. The biggest thing being run fits/gap filling, but he’s got the mentality of a run stopping safety. This may have been one of the easiest comps of the Draft season for us, the minute we turned on the tape, he reminded us almost exactly of 2022 prospect Ji’Ayir Brown.
Updated 4/23/24: Everything in our original summary of Nubin remains the same, his run support stuff needs to be cleaned up. As for being a coverage safety, he doesn’t feel as rangy as some people make him out to be… or at least not consistently. He has and can make plays from single high, but it’s more so his ability to trigger down hill and jump the route rather than run sideline to sideline. We watched a quick highlight video, it looks like a good chunk of his INTs came from Cover 2. Nubin’s grade is indicative of what we believe he would be if he was drafted to any of the 32 NFL teams, but could end up being better than grade in the right system.
