Troy Franklin Summary:

The Positives

  • Elite Speed
  • Uses more subtle movements on routes to pair with speed that is effective
  • Fights through contact after the catch
  • Very useful as a field stretcher on various deep routes

The Negatives

  • Slender Frame (not Tyquon Thornton slender but still)
  • Weighed in even lighter at the combine
  • Body catches way too much
  • Change of direction on hard cuts is not subtle or too smooth
  • Ability to high point passes is not consistent
  • Hand placement in general is inconsistent (worry about drops at the next level)

Troy Franklin broke the career receiving yards record at Oregon and it is easy to see why. His elite speed and height combination made him a menace for college corners. However, I worry about his transition to the next level. He is very slender for his size and could do with some bulking up. He also uses his body to catch way too much and his hand placement when he does catch with his hands is all over the place. I seriously worry about a lot of frustrating drops in his future and he does not possess the route running savvy to overcome any potential drop issues. He is an elite developmental prospect, but should not be viewed as a round one bonafide starter.
