Steele Chambers Player Summary:
The Positives
- Looks fast on tape
- Very twitchy
- Very fluid mover, loose/smooth hips
- Good in space
- Pretty good coverage skills
- Raw
- Plays aggressively, especially down hill and in the box
- Good awareness of leaking backs and tight ends
- Playing off blocks much better in Maryland film
The Negatives
- Struggles to shed blocks
- Linemen more or less have their way with Steele in the run game once they get hands on
- Tackling is okay, can be spotty at times
- Tackles high
- Run game vision and awareness needs work
- Sometimes he misses the gap and runs into the back of his own lineman
- Sometimes he runs himself into blocks
- Sometimes he gives up his leverage by taking bad angles
- In 2023 tape, it looked like Chambers shared his reps, not an every down backer
- Dropped an easy pick in the Maryland game
Steele Chambers is raw, there’s no way around it. We will say though, we can tell by his film that he’s going to be a prospect teams fall in love with in Indy. The way he can move and his play speed are going to shine in the combine drills, and he will jump up draft boards. Buyer beware though, you have work to do. Chambers should be able to contribute as a 3rd down backer early, but needs time to develop his ability to play the box. We like the upside though.
Updated 3/8/24:
- Combine numbers and rank added to measurable portion of profile
- Grade changed from “51%” to “56% with upside”
- Projection changed from “Day 3, Fringe 2 on upside” to “Rounds 4-5”
- Positives Added:
- Good awareness of leaking backs and tight ends
- Playing off blocks much better in Maryland film
- Negatives Added:
- Dropped an easy pick in the Maryland game
- Other Notes:
- Chambers looked a bit more disruptive in our rescout. Despite not being around the ball at the end of the play all the time, he is usually near the ball at some point most plays, close to making a play or disrupting flow.
