Player Comparison: Slightly higher end Jaelyn Duncan
Olu Fashanu Summary:
The Positives
- Strong… Gets movement off the line
- Washes players on down blocks
- Sees stunts well for the most part
- Deals with power linemen relatively well
- More confidence in him as a run blocker
The Negatives
- Footwork not great, needs work
- Flails his arms a decent amount in pass pro
- Ohio State’s Defensive Ends, particularly JT Tuimoloau, made his life hell
- Speed/Finesse players give him issues
- They’ll run him out and then work back into the inside gap
- His hands get wide more than you’d like to see… major concerns of him becoming a walking penalty
- In the Michigan game, seemed to have some block sustainability issues
- More of “flash” player than consistent
Side Note:
- The Ohio State film looks much worse in rescout than the original scout
Olu Fashanu is probably going to end up staying our top OT this year. We liked Fashanu, but the jury is still out on whether we loved him or not. We don’t believe he’s truly this generational talent. He gets the job done… One of the reasons we comped him to Thomas is because we believe he’s going to go early due to the fact that he’s probably the safest lineman coming out this year.
Updated 3/17/24: Olu Fashanu’s stock is falling hard for us. Upon a rescout, he’s a much rougher prospect than we originally thought. We thought he was arguably the safest OT prospect in the class, but he’s far from. The Ohio State film looks much worse in the rescout than the original scout. Their DE’s(particularly Tuimoloau) made his life hell. Speed/finesse players give him fits. In every game we watched there was some sort of issue. Some same, some different, but always something. His flashes are good, but the consistency isn’t there.
