Evan Williams Player Summary:
The Positives
- Seems to have pretty disciplined eyes
- Great demeanor, plays with aggression
- Comes screaming downhill when the opportunity arises
- Extremely high motor player
- Very good coverage safety
- Oregon seemed very zone heavy, so minimal man coverage tape, but looked good from what was there
- Even if he doesn’t make the play it just feels like he’s always around the ball
- Williams made an extremely rangy, near ridiculous INT of Joe Milton in the Senior Bowl
The Negatives
- Tackling needs work and polishing, way too inconsistent
- Seems like a lack of fundamentals at some points
- Sometimes it feels like he’s just trying too hard to make the highlight reel hit
- Leaves his feet sometimes too much
- Tackling in the USC game was inconsistent
- Tackling in the Colorado game was great
- Tackling in Washington game started rocky, but he really picked it up
Evan Williams is a very underrated safety in this year’s class. Williams mixes good coverage skill with a set of pretty disciplined eyes. He plays with an extremely high motor and great demeanor. His tackling can be inconsistent and will need to be improved/polished by the team that drafts him, but he’s ready to go on day one if you need him.
