Complete Scouting Report of Dylan McMahon | What You Need to Know

An in depth and complete scouting report and draft prospect profile of North Carolina State Center Dylan McMahon for the NFL Draft.

Player: Dylan McMahon

School: NC State

Age: ?

Dylan McMahon Measurables:

  • Height: 6’3” (NFL Combine)
  • Weight: 299 (NFL Combine)
  • 40: 5.1 (NFL Combine)
  • 10 Yard Split: 1.75 (NFL Combine)
  • Vertical Jump: 33” (NFL Combine)
  • Broad Jump: 9’7” (NFL Combine)

  • Other Notes:
    • Measured in 1” shorter and 6 lbs lighter at Combine than ESPN had listed
    • Dylan McMahon looks slightly bigger than he did on tape
    • Good 40 for McMahon, but thought he’d be a tad faster
    • Unsurprisingly McMahon looks like one of the best movers of the OL

Film Watched: Notre Dame, Wake Forest

Prospect Grade: 58%

Projected Draft Day: Day 2 (BUT he’s one of the first prospects whos size legitimately concerns us)

Player Comparison:  Drew Dalman

Best Team Fits: Teams who run a lot, big doses of RPO and quick game passing

Dylan McMahon Summary:

The Positives

  • Big effort player
  • Pretty good second level blocker… when he can get there

The Negatives

  • He looks small on tape
  • Even when he is able to hold his ground in pass pro, it doesn’t feel like he can hold it as long as others

Side Notes

  • When McMahon is run blocking the “lack” of size/strength does not show up as much. When he is pass blocking you see him “losing” battles based on strength.
  • The imbalance of power/strength showed more in the Notre Dame Game and sparingly against Wake Forest. He may be fine against certain players at next level, but could struggle against the top dogs

Dylan McMahon may be one of the smallest Center prospects we’ve ever seen, he literally looks like a TE. His measurables and how small he looks on tape don’t even match up. When you look at Centers of similar size they look bigger than him. As a result he struggles to hold his own in pass pro, and even when he is he can’t sustain it as long as others. On the flip side though, he’s a big time effort player. He “excels” when he’s out in space, like he’s a good second level blocker, but it depends on if he can get off the line to get there.
