The hype for Braelon Allen is a little too much. Yes Wisconsin is in the running for RBU, and yes his statistics are good. But, you put on the tape and there is not much there. It is worth mentioning he is still very new to the position as he was recruited at the linebacker position. That being said, he still has a looong way to go to be a serious prospect taken in the first 3 rounds. For someone of his size, he displays an alarming averageness of power. His athleticism is not great and he has almost no elusiveness to speak of. He takes what is given by his blockers and rarely creates anything for himself either through power or making defenders miss. There is a chance he gets drafted to a team that unlocks his true potential as a power back, but it is a lot of progression needed to be a feature back. He is very young and has the physical upside that not a lot of backs possess, yet is so incredibly raw and his inexperience at the position shows. Our grade is low but for us that range represents not just a bench player, but also a major project with insane upside (which describes Allen). He could theoretically take a big leap this year with more experience. We feel it is likely he has another good season but returns to school one more additional year to continue development.
