These are our best picks of day 3 2023 nfl draft. Not every pick is included but it is the ones we love the most.
Philadelphia Eagles(Pick 105)- Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
We along with the entire football community are insanely shocked that Ringo fell this far. We understand he’s not a polished prospect, but his ceiling is one of the best in the class. The weirdest part is that no one knew why he was falling. Howie Roseman is going to do Howie Roseman things, and comes up to reunite Ringo with his teammates. Eagles are big winners of this year’s draft so far. This may end up being the steal of the draft, think Woolen from last year’s draft.
Indianapolis Colts(Pick 106)- Blake Freeland, OT, BYU
We loved Freeland, we had him as a fringe first rounder, so this is unbelievable value. The only reason this grade is not higher is because it’s a bit hard to see what the plan for him is. 2022 2nd round pick Bernhard Raimann was a prospect talked about last year as someone who could play guard, so they could transition him to guard while Freeland takes over LT. Freeland’s pass pro could use some development, but he’s a great run blocker and JT is going to love this guy.
Indianapolis Colts(Pick 110)- Adetomiwa Adebawore, DT, Northwestern
It is amazing that Adebawore was still here. From an athletic standpoint he could be a special pass rusher at the next level. He actually tested better than Calijah Kancey. Now, he definitely needs development but the traits were late round 1 worthy. The Colts continue their impressive draft.
Cleveland Browns(Pick 111)- Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State
We aren’t as surprised as other people that Jones went in the 4th Round. Despite being a mountain of a man we had concerns around him in a few aspects of his game. The great thing about this fit is that Jones doesn’t have to be started right away. He can sit and develop behind Wills and Conklin.
Atlanta Falcons(Pick 113)- Clark Phillips III
We like this pick for Atlanta because of where they took him. We saw a ton of projections of Phillips on Day 2 which we didn’t agree with. This is right around where we thought he would go. We thought Phillips may go too early because of his “ball hawking” skills, but he has more issues than people wanted to admit to. He should come in right away and push Mike Hughes for the Falcons NB spot.
Chicago Bears(Pick115)- Roschon Johnson, RB, Texas
We had a second round grade on Roschon and luckily he goes to a place that likes to run the ball and just lost a ton of snaps from David Montgomery.
Baltimore Ravens (Pick 124)- Tavius Robinson, EDGE, Ole Miss
Love this selection. This is a total Ravens pass rusher and could be the future along with David Ojabo.
Los Angeles Rams(Pick 128)- Stetson Bennett, QB, Georgia
Bennett did not help himself in the pre draft process, but this is the perfect spot for him. He immediately becomes a high end backup for the Rams but it is more than that. He has serious skill to play at the NFL level.
Cincinatti Bengals(Pick 131)- Charlie Jones, WR, Purdue
Jones was a day 3 receiver, but he adds a different dynamic to the room. He brings a ton of speed.
Pittsburgh Steelers(Pick 132)- Nick Herbig, EDGE, Wisconsin
It is wild that he was still here. He was a 2nd round pass rusher in our opinion and is yet another steal for the Steelers.
Washington Commanders(Pick 137)- KJ Henry, EDGE, Clemson
Henry should have been gone by now, but Washington sorely needed pass rushing depth. Henry is still raw and has a ton of upside.
Arizona Cardinals(Pick 139)- Clayton Tune, QB, Houston
Tune was one of our favorite quarterbacks. He has the skills to develop into a starter in the league and is a great backup to Kyler in the meantime
Cleveland Browns(Pick 140)- Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB, UCLA
This is a great backup for Watson. He should be able to win the backup job quickly and it will be interesting to see a couple years from now if he may be fighting to start.
New York Jets(Pick 143)- Israel Abanikanda, RB, Pitt
It is criminal that Izzy fell this far. As someone who wanted him to compete for snaps and a starting job this hurts. This really hurts. But for the Jets, they have to be ecstatic.
Tennessee Titans(Pick 147)- Josh Whyle, TE, Cincinnati
Whyle has a ton of blocking experience and little pass catching. The athletic upside is there to be a day 3 gem.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers(Pick 153)- SirVocea Dennis, LB, Pittsburgh
Dennis was a prospect we didn’t necessarily hate, but he was ranked 11th out of the 11 LBs we got to look at. He’s got special teams value, and we thought potential 3rd down value but not in TB. The only thing we can say about this pick is that we like the fit. He may not see the field at all defensively this season, but he’s getting to sit behind two of the best in the game in Devin White and Lavonte David, this is a great situation for Dennis.
Seattle Seahawks(Pick 154)- Olu Oluwatimi, C, Michigan
STEAL! We were a bit higher on Olu than others with a Round 3-4 projection. We love this fit. The Seahawks have been in need of a Center since Blythe retired. We saw Olu as a later option for teams who wanted Tippmann. Olu isn’t going to wow you with athleticism or highlight reel blocks, but he’s an old school lineman who’s going to get the job done. Geno Smith’s new best friend.
Baltimore Ravens(Pick 157)- Kyu Blu Kelly, CB, Stanford
This is one of our favorite picks of Day 3 so far, and one of the best value picks of the draft. We were much higher on Kelly than pretty much everyone in the football community as we had a fringe first round grade on him. Kelly has some development to do, he’s not perfect, but he has the intangibles you can’t coach. He is one of the most aggressive CBs we’ve seen in a very long time, his jam at the line is one of the best we’ve watched. The nice thing is that he doesn’t have to sit and develop, the Ravens like to bring pressure up front and take the pressure off their CBs. Kelly’s flaws can be hidden and his aggressive style of play is going to fit in perfectly in the AFC North. Kelly should absolutely compete for CB2 duties in camp opposite Humphrey.
Jacksonville Jaguars(Pick 160)- Antonio Johnson, NB/S, Texas A&M
We weren’t as high on Johnson as the rest of the football community, but we never imagined he’d fall this far. Johnson is definitely a project who needs to fill his frame out, but he’s got the frame and flashes on tape to be a very productive player in a year or so. Johnson is in a situation where he’s not going to be rushed to start at NB or S. He can take his time in development behind Tre Herndon, Andre Cisco, Rayshawn Jenkins, and Andrew Wingard. Great pick, great value.
Cincinnati Bengals(Pick 163)- Chase Brown, RB, Illinois
The Bengals needed running back depth with the uncertainty around Mixon. They are patients and get a poor man’s version of Mixon. Brown is not overly special in any area, but can do everything for a backfield. We had him comped to Sony Michel.
Houston Texans(Pick 167)- Henry To’oto’o, LB, Alabama
First off, we are glad To’oto’o went in the 5th. This is right around where we had him projected. We were afraid someone was going to take him too early and throw him into the mix too early. This is literally the perfect fit for him. He is going to supply the Texans with special teams value while he sits and develops behind some really solid veterans in Corey Littleton and Denzel Perryman. To’oto’o could take some third down snaps in place of Littleton or Perryman, but the best thing would be to let him develop. Ryans and the 49ers had a history of hitting on mid-late round backers, and we have full faith he can do it again with To’oto’o
Las Vegas Raiders(Pick 170)- Christopher Smith II, S, Georgia
Smith was one of Jack’s favorite prospects of the entire class, so it hurts to see him go to the poverty franchise. However, the positive about this landing spot is that he will absolutely go into training camp and battle Marcus Epps and Tre’von Moehrig for a starting spot, and he is fully capable of beating out both of them. Smith POPS on tape. We won’t rant too much, but we had a 1st round grade on Smith early on. An iffy Senior Bowl and an up-and-down combine dropped his projection to the 2nd round, but never in a million years did we think our S1 was going to fall this far. Unbelievable steal and value. We are going to look back in a couple years and wonder why he fell to the 5th round.
San Francisco 49ers(Pick 173)- Robert Beal, EDGE, Georgia
This feels like a day 3 San Fran pick that will help up playing way beyond his draft slot. He is somewhat the forgotten man on Georgia’s defense but he still has upside.
Los Angeles Rams(Pick 174)- Warren McClendon, OT, Georgia
McClendon has some technique concerns, which is why we had him projected in the 5th, but he’s a great pick here who gets to reunite with QB Stetson Bennett. McClendon should have time to sit and develop for at least a year behind Joe Noteboom and Rob Havestein, which is an ideal situation for him. Rams continue to build the trenches for the future which we love. If they can clean up his game, they got a great value here.
Indianapolis Colts(Pick 176)- Evan Hull, RB, Northwestern
Hull is a high character and high effort player with amazing pass catching ability. His rushing style is more grind away than special but his pairing is perfect with Taylor.
Los Angeles Rams(Pick 177)- Puka Nacua, WR, BYU
Nacua is an amazing pick here, He reminds us so much of Robert Woods that it is fitting he went to the Rams. He could compete for snaps right away as a 6th rounder which is crazy.
Los Angeles Rams(Pick 182)- Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson
The Rams continue their unbelievable 2023 Draft. We had a 2nd round grade on THT, so this is a great value on top of being a great pick. We understand why THT fell though, it’s hard to take a pure NB early. The Rams need an outside CB after trading Jalen Ramsey for peanuts. This raises the question, is Cobie going to be asked to play outside while THT takes the nickel or is THT going to be asked to play outside like he did in college(which we aren’t as much a fan of)?
Denver Broncos(Pick 183)- JL Skinner, S, Boise State
Skinner is a developmental safety prospect, but has really elite size. It’s hard not to see VT Kam Chancellor when you watch the tape. He tore his pec during Combine training and will more than likely miss most of 2023. Skinner needs time to clean up his game once he gets back from injury, but he is in an unbelievable situation where he will get to learn from one of the league’s best in Justin Simmons as well as his running mate Caden Sterns. Skinner should work his way into some kind of role in 2024, but shouldn’t be rushed. If they can develop him to anywhere near his ceiling, he’s going to be a scary player for years to come.
Jacksonville Jaguars (Pick 185)- Parker Washington, WR, Penn State
We had Washington as Leviska Shenault lite so it is interesting to see him go to the Jaguars. He should be the WR4 sooner rather than later and can catch passes from the backfield as well if asked. He has more upside than your standard 6th round pick
Tennessee Titans(Pick 186)- Jaelyn Duncan, OT, Maryland
We weren’t as high on Duncan as others were although, him falling to the 6th is kind of surprising. He’s a good run blocking, but we have legit concerns about his pass pro. We think he could use time to develop; however, Tennessee’s line needs help now. They could kick Dillard inside and put Duncan at LT opposite Petit-Frere. Duncan, Skoronski, some center, Dillard, and Petit-Frere would be a pretty well put together offensive line for a team who purged it just a couple months ago.
Cleveland Browns(Pick 190)- Luke Wypler, C, Ohio State
We thought Wypler had really inconsistent film, but to see him fall to the 6th round may be one of the more shocking falls this year. We thought he was still a top center prospect in a loaded center class. This pick is a little questionable considering Cleveland has Pocic and two Day 3 picks(2020 and 2022) at center, but the positive is that Wypler will have time to clean up his game and become more consistent before taking over as a starter.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers(Pick 191)- Trey Palmer, WR, Nebraska
Palmer is better than both Cincinnati speed receivers taken before him. We figured he would be around a 4th rounder for his speed alone but the Bucs get him in the 6th.
New Orleans Saints(Pick 195)- AT Perry, WR, Wake Forest
They traded Trautman for this pick and took a receiver that is big and has a ton of production is college. We were a little disappointed with his film but he really should not have been here still.
Dallas Cowboys(Pick 212)- Deuce Vaughn, RB, Kansas State
Vaughn is small, but much better than a 6th round pick. Dallas waited forever to address the running back room and they still got one of the better skill players at the position. He should play a lot of rolls for Dallas.
San Francisco 49ers(Pick 216)- Dee Winters, LB, TCU
We weren’t in love with Winters film, but we love the fit with the 49ers history of developing LBs.
Indianapolis Colts(Pick 221)- Jaylon Jones, CB, Texas A&M
Colts address the CB room once again with a prospect we had a late Day 2 grade on. He should come in and compete for some snaps.
Atlanta Falcons(Pick 224)- DeMarcco Hellams, S, Alabama
One of our biggest issues with Hellams was his deep zone coverage ability. Atlanta is about as perfect a fit as he could’ve asked for. The Falcons added Jessie Bates this offseason meaning Hellams no longer has to be a FS. He can come into camp and compete with Richie Grant and Jaylinn Hawkins for the SS spot. We had a late Day 2- Early Day 3 grade on Hellams. We understand we were higher on him than most, but he is fully capable of being a starting SS his rookie year. Also, fun to note that our comp for him was Vonn Bell who was Bates’ partner in Cincy.
Baltimore Ravens(Pick 229)- Andrew Vorhees, OG, USC
We know we’ve said this a ton, but this may actually be the steal of the draft. We understand that Vorhees Tore his ACL, but unanimously it sounded like he was a first round prospect before the injury. To get a 1st round graded lineman in the 7th round is ridiculous value.
Los Angeles Rams(Pick 234)- Jason Taylor II, S, Oklahoma State
The Rams lost Taylor Rapp and Nick Scott in FA. The room still consists of Jordan Fuller, Russ Yeast, Richard LeCounte, and Quentin Lake. Fuller may have a guaranteed starting spot, but he also may not. The safety room is wide open for competition. Yes, Taylor has some things to clean up in his game, but there’s absolutely no reason he can’t win a starting spot at safety. Also, he played at LB in the Senior Bowl. The Rams ILB room is pretty rough right now, could Taylor be a candidate to move down and start at LB????
