Best Fits from 2023 NFL Free Agency Signings

We discuss who we feel fits best with their new teams from the 2023 NFL Free Agency Frenzy

Jimmy Garoppolo to the Raiders

If Josh McDaniels is going to get anyone on his side to support whatever he is trying to build, it is Jimmy G. Who knows if it will work, but it is the best they could do to salvage whatever hold on the locker room he still has. Garoppolo also is the perfect bridge if they still draft a QB.

Gardner Minshew to the Colts

Gardner Minshew being reunited with Shane Steichen is a great move in our opinion. We actually pushed for the Colts to go trade for him last year instead of Matt Ryan but oh well, we were a season early. It is hard to guess which QB the Colts love the most, but if Steichen wants to mirror his success in Philly, the obvious candidate is Anthony Richardson. If this is the case, Minshew can hold down the fort for a season while Richardson gets much needed development.

PJ Walker to the Bears

Walker is the best backup they could have found for Justin Fields (Unless you consider Tyler Huntley a free agent). Is he the athlete Fields is? No, but the offense will not have to drastically change if Fields goes down with injury.

Marcus Mariota to the Eagles

For the same reason as above, Mariota can run a similar offense to Hurts should anything happen. Philly overpaid him, but it is understandable why they did given how important Hurts’s play style is to this offense.

Mike McGlinchey to the Broncos

Denver paid him a lot, but it was sorely needed to help protect Russel Wilson (who was hit more than you may think and no, it was not all his fault).

David Montgomery to the Lions

Lions fans will hate that Williams is gone, but Montgomery will fit right in. He is younger than Williams, and offers more in the passing game. He should have a very similar role to what Jamaal had last year, and maybe produce a career year considering he had been running behind the awful Chicago line for years.

Jamaal Williams to the Saints

Any team that signed him was going to have a good fit. He is a player the fan base can rally behind and may be the most likable guy in the whole league. He also comes very affordable and offers much needed insurance in the muddied Kamara situation. They should add a lightning to his thunder if Kamara is out, but it is still a great fit.

Rashaad Penny to the Eagles

Even before seeing the insanely cheap deal that Philly got him on, Penny was a great signing. We imagine he will be in the Gainwell roll from last year (with Gainwell himself getting the lead back roll) and get 10-15 touches per game. It should keep him fresh and allow him to thrive.

Miles Sanders to the Panthers

Carolina got a good deal for their new lead back, and based on his limited usage in Philadelphia, Sanders should have a lot left in the tank despite beginning the season at 26 years old.

Javon Hargrave to the 49ers

Hargrave leaves one amazing line and joins another. Yes he is pricey, but the 49ers have been missing the elite DT presence since they traded away Buckner. Kinlaw has not worked out yet, but Hargrave could make this line even better and free up more opportunities for Bosa and Armstead.

Dre’Mont Jones to the Seahawks

We had mocked the likes of Bresee, Carter, and Van Ness to Seattle. Instead, they take care of a desperately needed interior pass rusher with a lot of upside.

Bobby Okereke to the Giants

The Giants have been patch working their linebackers for years. Jaylon Smith was the guy last year, Blake Martinez was the attempt before that. Now, they go younger with a linebacker on the rise in Bobby Okereke.

Cole Holcomb to the Steelers

Holcomb screams Steelers. They moved on from Devin Bush, Myles Jack, and Spillane and replaced them with Holcomb (primarily). Is he an upgrade over Myles Jack? Maybe not, but he will fit culturally.

Azeez Al Shaair to the Titans

The Titans get a lot of production out of washed up and or lesser known linebackers. Al Shaair should have a career year in Tennessee provided he stays healthy.

Jessie Bates to Atlanta

The Falcons paid up for Bates but he immediately becomes the best safety they have had in quite some time. He can captain their very young defense.

Cam Sutton and CJ Gardner Johnson to Detroit

Somewhat under the radar as far as signings go, Sutton has quietly turned into a Pro Bowl level corner. Detroit needed secondary help and they got it in multiple ways, but especially with Sutton. Gardner Johnson’s market never really materialized and Detroit took advantage of it. He is one of the best trash talkers in the league and should fit in great with Detroit’s scrappy mentality.
