Player Summary:

Bennett Williams is a player that flashed when I watched Oregon defensive film for prospects Noah Sewell and Christian Gonzalez. However, when you watch the film, it is pretty inconsistent. There are definitely flashes and there are also some pretty rough moments. What I will say about his tape though is that he definitely had better film towards the end of the season. Washington, Utah, and the East-West Shrine I thought Williams really started putting it together.

The first note I have on Bennett is that he’s a positionless player. He will NOT be a positionless player in the league. I really have no idea what Bennett is going to play in the league. Williams wasn’t even invited to the combine, I have a feeling that he is a predicted UDFA by most people. I do believe there is a chance that he gets drafted though. I think when you turn on the tape there is going to be something that a team is going to like and take a shot on.

In my opinion, Bennett is not going to be a nickelback at the next level. He lacks the speed and coverage skills(specifically man) to handle slot receivers. I think he’s either going to be a backup safety or is going to put some weight on and play some sort of OLB/sub package linebacker.

At Oregon I thought he looked the best when he was playing safety. The tape looked pretty clean, and he was able to read the field which he is able to keep in front of him.

When playing near the line of scrimmage as like a sub package backer, I thought that he really flashed when he was able to get hands on TEs and be physical. His strength level looked good. There were times when he had his eyes glued to the backfield too much though. The last note I have is that for a DB he held his own pretty well against O-linemen. He set the edge really well. I don’t know if it’s because he knew he wasn’t a pass rusher so he would rather play disciplined assignment football, but I was impressed by that.
