Complete Scouting Report of JC Latham | What You Need to Know

An in depth and complete scouting report and draft prospect profile of Alabama Offensive Tackle JC Latham for the NFL Draft.

Player: JC Latham

School: Alabama

Age: 20

JC Latham Measurables:

  • Height: 6’6” (NFL Combine)
  • Weight: 342 (NFL Combine)
  • Other Notes:
    • Measured in 18 lbs lighter than ESPN had listed
    • No athletic testing, which to us is fine. With weight down we saw improvement in his movement in drills
    • JC Latham long pull drill… freaking awesome. We noted on tape that he could pull but wasn’t the greatest mover. He moved really well on that first pull. Tight turn around the cone and all
    • Overall, Latham’s day in positional drills was great

Film Watched: Texas, Auburn, Georgia

Prospect Grade: 66%

Projected Draft Day: Mid Round 1

Player Comparison: Slightly higher end Marcus Cannon

JC Latham Summary:

The Positives

  • Big, strong mauler type
  • From Texas game to Auburn, you can see the consistency and overall ability improve
    • You see it in the SECCG vs Georgia too.
  • Can pull, although not the greatest mover
  • Anchors really well
  • Violent down blocks on doubles

The Negatives

  • Struggles with speed more than power
  • Can get caught with his arm wrapped around defenders a little more than you’d like to see

JC Latham is an intriguing prospect. He’s a big, strong mauler type, who can pull if asked although he’s not the most fluent mover. He seems pretty aware, as he keeps his head on a swivel pre-snap. He does a lot well, but there’s also a lot of inconsistency to his game. The footwork is inconsistent(although bad footwork doesn’t necessarily lead to lean like most prospects), but just kind of in general his tape has highs and lows. There were also sometimes where we thought he showed laziness or like complacency in his play. HOWEVER, we will say you can watch his consistency and overall ability improve from the Texas to the Auburn game.

Updated 3/12/24: JC Latham is a prospect that is pretty significantly trending up for us. We are not a platform that likes to make a big deal of weight, but when we see something significant we will point it out. Latham was listed at 360 on ESPN, but 342 at the Combine. His footwork and the way he moved was slightly in question from tape, but let us tell you that all concerns we had we threw out the window after watching him go through the positional drills at the Combine. He looks much smoother and more comfortable at the 342. We also did a secondary quick scout of the Georgia SECCG, and the notes we made about a difference between early and late season Latham continue to hold true. The further you get into the season, the less questions you will have about overall ability.

Updated 3/12/24:

  • Combine numbers and notes added to measurable portion of profile
  • Grade changed from “58%” to “66%”
  • Projection changed from “Day 2, Fringe Day 1” to “Mid Round 1”
  • Comp changed from “Shades of Mekhi Becton” to “Slightly higher end Marcus Cannon”
  • Positives Added
    • Anchors really well
    • Violent down blocks on doubles
  • Negatives Added
    • Struggles with speed more than power
    • Can get caught with his arm wrapped around defenders a little more than you’d like to see
  • Negatives Removed
    • I see laziness in the way he plays at times
    • Tape overall has highs and lows
    • Footwork is inconsistent, but on a positive is not a heavy leaner
      • Removed because inconsistency was more so earlier in season rather than later
