Amarius Mims Summary:

The Positives

• Beautiful kick slide
• Moves really well for a guy his size
• Strong, can anchor himself as good as anyone in this class

The Negatives

• Always trying to move you off the ball, but aggression leads to heavy lean.
  • Sometimes feet get stagnant while upper body continues to move forward
• Limited film due to injury this year
• His base can get very wide when he kick slides

Amarius Mims is a super interesting tackle prospect in this year’s class. Despite having to wait his turn behind 2022 NFL Draftees Broderick Jones and Warren McClendon, Mims seems to be the most technically sound of the three of them. For a 360 lb tackle, Mims moves really well when he is asked to pull or get out in front of Georgia’s screens. We love his aggression but it can lead to heavy lean when blocking. The biggest issue we face with Mims is finding film. This was his first full season as the starter, and he missed a good chunk of time with injury. 

Updated 3/11/24: A lot of what we originally saw with Amarius Mims stands true. The biggest reason for his spike in grade had to do with his lack of film. For our grading system 60% for us equates to a “Boom-or-Bust” prospect, which in the case of Mims’ lack of film we took too literal. Upon a second look of what we could find film wise, we think Mims floor is actually extremely impressive with upside still there. We think lack of starts and film could drop Mims into the teens to early 20’s, but skill wise we now believe he is Top 10 worthy.
