Our Titans Ideal Offseason Plans/Thoughts:

  • It is absolutely baffling that the Titans are $23.5 million in the hole. When you look at it, their roster it’s not even championship caliber. Who are they paying that is putting them this much over the cap? The Titans are very fortunate that they play in the AFC South because in almost any other division they would not have 7 wins. The AFC South has been sneaking their teams into the playoffs for years, but the Jags seem to be building a legit team that this Titans roster is not going to be able to compete with.
  • The Titans need to address the QB position. Tannehill has done a lot of good things for this franchise over the past few years, but he’s not the guy that’s going to take them to a Super Bowl. The Titans need to ask Tannehill to take a pay cut or restructure in some way. He can continue to be a good mentor for young QBs, but he’s going to lead them to an average season at best. The Titans should wait until next year to grab a QB, but Vrabel could feel he’s going to be on the hot seat sooner than later. We are not high on Levis at all, but there’s a lot of hype surrounding him and if he falls to 11 we think Vrabel may take a chance on him. Levis’s issues could be hidden better in Tennessee than any other team. If not him, there are multiple day 2 options that are more pro ready than Willis probably is now (with similar skill sets to Tannehill),
  • The Titans WR room is not in good shape after trading rising superstar AJ Brown on day one of the draft last year. Treylon Burks dealt with asthma in the summer and injury for much of the regular season. He did flash on toward the end of the season, but he needs help. Robert Woods looked washed(and just got cut), and Westbrook-Ikhine is a FA and hasn’t stood out the way many had hoped. Philips should continue to run the slot next season, but a starting WR and depth should be prioritized. JuJu could be a solid, lower-cost option for the Titans who are in need of a bigger body and solid WR2.
  • Lewan has officially been released and they now have a hole at LT as well as need help at guard especially with Nate Davis a FA. Money is an issue for this team but if they can bring Davis back that would be a good start. There’s no way Johnson falls to 11, and in our mock draft we have Anton Harrison going one pick before the Titans. If you strictly want to focus your attention on tackle then Broderick Jones is the best available player on the board to take here. If you want a lineman with some positional flexibility Skoronski is your guy here. Also look for the Titans to add depth all over the line, especially at tackle.
  • The Titans defensive line has a strong, young anchor in Jeffery Simmons. Autry has been a solid veteran piece, but they could Au-try and bring in some youth. Both their NTs are free agents, but neither has been a standout either. Khalen Saunders from KC could be a solid option for the Titans at NT. He’s 6’0”, 324 and should be able to occupy the center of the defensive line.
  • Bud Dupree hasn’t even come close to living up to his contract, and is one of the major cap casualties of this team. Look for him to be shopped or just straight up cut. With Dupree out, and Landry recovering from a torn ACL, the Titans need to address the OLB position. Vrabel could look to bring back an old friend in Jadeveon Clowney. He bet on himself last offseason with the Browns signing a one year deal in hopes that he would get a long term, big money contract this offseason, but that’s always the risk of betting on yourself. Clowney should be a low-cost veteran option who should bring decent production to the Titans defensive front seven.
  • David Long is a FA and Cunningham just got cut, so the Titans should address ILB. 2021 3rd round pick Monty Rice should be ready to step in as a three-down starter next year, but they will need someone to play next to him. Their depth is okay with two players from last year’s draft class, but they could look to improve their depth as well.
  • The Titans have invested heavily into their CB room taking 4 prospects in the top 3 rounds within the last 3 years. It’s hard to imagine them taking another one. They could look to add a veteran to the room to help mentor the young guys though. Their starting safeties are good, but lack decent backups.
  • UPDATE: Bud Dupree has been released. The Titans need to address the OLB/edge position.
