Player Summary:
Cam Smith is a prospect I like a lot. Is he a top five or top ten pick? I don’t know about that yet, but I think he’ll be a first rounder. Smith is a super physical, press-man corner. He wants to get in your face, frustrate you, and re-route you every single play. I love corners who like to play like this; however, I noticed that when he is allowed to play this style he can get caught with double moves. I also believe Smith is a really smart zone corner. One of the things about his game I like the most is just how well he can apex routes in zone. This was something I noticed from him a couple of times in film study, and it really caught my eye.
The primary issue I’ve noticed with Smith is that he’s not a great tackler. It has nothing to do with a lack of effort either. Smith is a high effort player who will run plays down, he just isn’t a great tackler. The other note I have about him is… What’s his speed? I can’t tell if he’s fast or not, particularly in his catch up/closing speed.
UPDATE 3/11:
Smith is more like an Early-Mid Round 2 player for me now. A good combine could have him as a fringe Round 1 player though. Smith, Porter, and Banks are very close to each other in my rankings, and their position in the rankings are pretty interchangeable.
