Player Summary: Lucas is a tackle I’ve heard a lot of hype around by some people, and absolutely nothing about him from others. Lucas should overall be talked about more, but should not be overhyped. Lucas is not the strongest or fastest tackle you will ever see, but he is a nice balance of both. I wouldn’t ask him to do it consistently, but he can certainly pull from the tackle spot and slip out to get out in front of screen passes. Lucas is a quality run blocker, who seems to be pretty technically sound.
My first issue with Lucas was the inconsistency in his footwork. He definitely needs some help with his foot work. I think that this could at least be part of the reason for his second issue with me. He has really inconsistent pass blocking tape. There are some plays where he completely man handles his guy, and there’s some where he gets run by or pushed back into his QB. At the end of the day, I think Lucas can be drafted to start day 1. I think he will be a very serviceable starter for a team. His biggest issue technically is his footwork. If he can improve that I think he could be a very good starter or top tier backup in the league. I just don’t know where his upside is compared to some of the other lineman in the class.
