Player Comparison: Sam Hubbard (With Upside)

Player Summary: Watching Karlaftis on film really makes me wonder why he is not talked about next to Huctchinson as the best EDGE in this class. In my opinion, Karlaftis has a much better first step and is faster. They both utilize bull rushes and have immense power potential. Karlaftis has extreme positional flexibility to play all across the line from standup to inside pass rusher. He did not produce elite numbers from a pass rushing standpoint, but he is double and triple teamed in almost every game I watched. This was not the case with any other pass rusher I saw. When left one on one he usually won the matchup. It is tempting to compare him to someone like JJ Watt, but that is a best case scenario, so we have Karlaftis’s comp as Sam Hubbard. Hubbard is a very good end, but probably not elite. We believe that is where Karlaftis starts, however he has upside beyond Hubbard. If he can continue to develop, he could even approach potential akin to JJ Watt.
