Prospect Profile: Breece Hall

Player: Breece Hall

School: Iowa State

Height and Weight: 5’11”, 217

Combine Results:

  • 40: 4.39
  • Bench: DNP
  • Vertical Jump: 40
  • Broad Jump: 126
  • 3 Cone: DNP
  • Other Notes: Hall appeared to separate himself from the rest of the class while at the combine. He had amazing athletic testing numbers, and showed off good footwork and cuts in the running drills. He also looked very good catching the ball, showing he is a three down back.

Strengths: Very patient runner who bursts through the lane once found, really good blend of speed and power, natural hands catcher, uses a lot of subtle movements when running, despite being a patient runner he knows when to hit the hole hard and pause, decent pass blocker, really puts a lot of effort into chips when coming out of the backfield, array of both speed and power ball carrier moves,

Weaknesses: He has a ton of usage at the college level if you buy into the notion that this could lead to breaking down early in the NFL, shows a lack of effort when asked to be the check down in the middle of field (may be by play design),  patient running style translates to route running at times in a bad way,

Projected Draft Day: Early Day 2

Player Comparison: Le’veon Bell

Player Summary: Hall looks like he could be special at the next level. He is a patient style runner, but not at the expense of losing yards in the backfield. When he finds the hole he shows off his speed and explodes through with elite short area quickness. He is as likely to make a player miss as he is to run them over. Hall’s usage at the college level may cause some to pause, but we do not feel there is a ton of reason that this could leads to early breaking down.  Hall is a great pass catcher with natural hands and a willing pass blocker. We have slight concerns about his effort when he is not part of the play which showed up at times on tape. He also uses his patient style in route running when it did not seem like the best move, although this could have been by design. Overall, Hall has first round talent, but will most likely go day two due to the devaluation of running backs and other positions being of greater needs for teams. He has 2000 all purpose yard upside and can take over a backfield right out of the gate.
