2025 5-Star & Top Wide Receiver Dakorien Moore De-Commits from LSU

The LSU Tiger’s 2025 Recruiting class took a big hit when 2025 5-Star Wide Receiver Dakorien Moore decommitted. Standing at 5’11”, 175 lbs Moore is currently the WR1 and 4th overall recruit in 2025 according to 24/7 Sports. On top of just losing one of the top recruits in 2025, this is a pretty interesting loss for the Tigers because for a while LSU had the commitment of QB1 Bryce Underwood and RB1 Harlem Berry on top of Moore. It’s not super common to see a program have the QB1, RB1, and WR1 from a single class.

Moore is coming off his junior season at Texas powerhouse Duncanville High School. Duncanville was the 8th ranked program in the nation in 2023 with a 14-1 record with their only loss coming to 15-0, and the 5th ranked program in the nation, DeSoto 49-35. In 14 games in 2023, Moore tallied 1,303 yards and 15 TDs on 65 receptions. Also adding 9 yards on 2 rushes and 121 yards on 16 punt returns.

This was Moore’s decommitment post:

Earlier this month, Moore made a decision to “take a step back from the recruiting process”. This included limiting communication with schools to evaluate his top programs and create “clarity” heading into the summer visiting period. It was at the end of this decision that Moore decided to decommit.

Pay close attention to the last sentence in the 2nd paragraph: “I will not be considering any recruitment offers”. So that leaves three schools in the running: Oregon, Texas, and Ohio State. When Moore originally made his commitment back on August 12, 2023, Oregon and Texas rounded out his Top 3 with Ohio State just on the outside looking in. According to 24/7 Sports, Moore already has Official Visits set up with the remaining programs:

  • May 31: Ohio State
  • June 14: Texas
  • June 21: Oregon

Although Ohio State made a strong push to sneak into Moore’s Top 3, and just missed out, you can never count out Ohio State and Brian Hartline for a WR. Although other programs have a strong case for it, it really feels like Ohio State has been the true WR-U… at least recently.

Between the other two schools in Moore’s original Top 3, Texas currently has the 24/7 Sports Crystal Ball. It makes sense, he would stay home in Texas and play for a program that just lost their Top 3 WRs in the 2024 Draft: Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy, and Jordan Whittington. Texas did land Alabama Transfer Isaiah Bond, but he is expected to be a one year guy before being Sarkisian’s next drafted WR in 2025. Sarkisian is going to do all he can to have Moore be his next top WR.

We mentioned our thoughts on Oregon a little bit in our Peyton Woodyard Portal article, but we are high on Oregon as a program just in a general sense. We think Dan Lanning is building something truly special out there in Eugene, and wouldn’t be surprised if they took home the Big 10 title in their first season in their new conference.

With that being said we could absolutely see Oregon being the team to land Moore. It wouldn’t be the first time Dan Lanning flipped a major WR recruit. Just a few months ago, Lanning flipped 4 Star Jeremiah McClellan. McClellan was originally committed to Ohio State as of August 13, 2023. However, on December 20, 2023, which is Early National Signing Day, McClellan ended up flipping from Ohio State to Oregon and signed his letter of intent. We are not talking about some low end receiver school, Lanning flipped McClellan from what we believe is WR-U… that’s massive. So don’t be surprised if Lanning is able to do it again with Moore.

Not to mention, prior to the 2023 season, Dan Lanning and staff were able to land three Wide Receivers from the portal: 4-Star Gary Bryant Jr., 4 Star Traeshon Holden, and 3 Star Tez Johnson. Holden and Johnson both started in their first season with the Ducks. Holden hauled in 37 receptions for 452 yards and 6 TDs, while Tez Johnson hauled in 86 receptions for 1,182 yards and 10 TDs. Gary Bryant as a backup/rotational piece was able to haul in 30 receptions for 442 yards and 4 TDs.

In this year’s portal the Ducks were able to land 5-Star WR from Texas A&M, Evan Stewart. Stewart is coming off a season where he hauled in 38 receptions for 514 yards and 4 TDs. Stewart, if he chooses to leave, is being projected as a top receiver for the 2025 Draft Class.

Holden and Johnson are both also 5th year seniors and we assume will have to put in for the Draft(although who knows who still has eligibility these days). That’s a lot of production that could have to be replaced and with Moore being a 2025 recruit he could play early in his college career if he commits to Eugene.
