2025 4-Star EDGE Chad Woodfork Commits to TCU

It was reported by Hayes Fawcett a couple days ago that 2025 4-Star EDGE Chad Woodfork has committed to the TCU Horned Frogs. Woodfork committed to TCU over LSU and Texas Tech. When he committed to the Horned Frogs he said “Something special is brewing in Funky Town.”

Right now Woodfork is the 2025 EDGE17 and 159th overall recruit, according to 24/7 Sports. Woodfork is 6’4”, 220 lbs and coming off his Junior season at Summer Creek HS. The native of Humble, Texas posted 33 total tackles(13 solo), 9 TFLs, 3 sacks, 7 hurries, 2 FFs, 3 FRs, and 1 PD in 14 games.

We aren’t going to lie, his numbers feel a bit underwhelming for a recruit of his caliber. We don’t see stats as the be-all, we believe your impact on the game is more important. We haven’t seen game tape of Woodfork, so we don’t really want to say much more without having watched some of his tape, but 3 sacks feels light.

Unless Woodfork has a crazy breakout season as a Senior, we don’t think he’ll be an immediate impact player for the Horned Frogs. 6’4” is fine for a DE/OLB, but 220 feels a tad light even for an OLB. The nice thing for Woodfork is that in the Big 12 teams usually play smaller, more athletic fronts, so TCU should be a nice fit for him. Woodfork could find himself in a role in 2025, but also don’t be surprised TCU opts to redshirt him and allow him to lift and fill out his 6’4” frame before becoming an impact player for their defense.

In HC Sonny Dykes first season, the Horned Frogs went 13-2, not only making the CFP, but upsetting 2-Seed Michigan before being humiliated on National Television by the Georgia Bulldogs. TCU had a rough 2023 season posting a 5-7 record. Woodfork is a big get for a program, who heading into 2024, is looking to prove they aren’t a fluke team and 2022 wasn’t a one season wonder.

The Big 12 just lost their two powerhouses, Oklahoma and Texas, to the SEC; however, will be adding Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah. Arizona, Utah, and Colorado(maybe?… feels like they are all bark, no bite after Year 1 under Deion) should become immediate threats to the Big 12 Crown. We don’t think any team added to the Big 12 in the last couple seasons can be considered a Powerhouse, but there’s a strong level of competition with most teams being on relatively equal playing fields.
