2025 3-Star WR Josiah Abdullah De-Commits from Florida

The Florida Gators 2025 recruiting class took a hit when 3-Star Wide Receiver Josiah Abdullah decided to decommit a couple days ago.

Abdullah is currently WR100 in the 2025 class, according to 24/7 Sports. Standing at 5’10”, 175 lbs Abdullah is coming off his JR season at Woodward Academy in GA in which he caught 52 passes for 786 yards and 10 TDs. Abdullah finished statistically as Woodward’s WR2 behind only Senior Ben Grice who will be at Wake Forest this fall. With Grice leaving, Woodward is going to have to replace a little over 50 receptions, almost 1k yards, and 11 TDs worth of production, and we suspect Abdullah could at least in part take on the load left behind.

Abdullah may only be a 3-Star right now, but a strong Senior campaign could have him trending upwards and he’s in a pretty good situation to do so now as Woodward’s WR1.

It’s interesting to note that Abdullah has only been committed to the Gators since January 14. He had chosen Florida at the time over Florida State, Michigan, and others. The decommitment from Abdullah is being described as a “mutual parting of ways”, which is not very common at the college level to hear; however, with a new era of college football inevitable and continual changes nothing should surprise you anymore. Although when you read about the situation, a “mutual parting of ways” sounds fairly accurate.

On Abdullah’s end, it sounds like his recruitment ramped up after his January 14th commitment to the Gators. He reportedly received offers from Alabama(re-up under DeBoer) and Indiana in mid-May on top of the other offers he already had.

On Florida’s end, somewhere between Abdullah’s commitment and decommitment they hosted two other 3-Star WR recruits(according to 24/7 Sports) from the 2025 class: 6’3”, 205 lb Joshua Moore(WR64) and 6’1”, 165 lb Naeshaun Montgomery(WR42).

Just because you land one 3-Star WR doesn’t mean coaches and programs can just stop recruiting. There’s an argument that Abdullah just needs to understand that recruiting never stops, but we can also see why it’s being described as a “mutual parting of ways”.

On a positive note for Abdullah, he has over 50 offers from schools that want him, so he’ll find a program he feels best suits him. On the other hand, Florida has to fight for their guys now. The Gators 2025 class is now down to just 4 hard commits, and dropped to 56th overall in the team rankings. Just to put that into perspective, Notre Dame, who’s currently on top of the team ranks in 2025 has 21 total recruits. Florida has a long way to go to build their 2025 class up, which now includes the task of gaining the commitment of a WR(s) as Abdullah was their only WR commit.
