It was reported yesterday by Hayes Fawcett, that 2025 3-Star RB Deandre Desinor has committed to the West Virginia Mountaineers. Desinor chose the Mountaineers over Colorado, Louisville, and Oregon.
Deandre Desinor is a 3-Star and the RB25, according to 24/7 Sports. Desinor stands at 5’8.5”, 175 lbs and is coming off his Junior Season at American Heritage. Before we talk about that though, let’s talk about where he was for the first half of his career.
As a freshman and sophomore Desinor played at North Broward Prep. As a freshman in 9 games, he carried the ball 128 times for 566 yards(4.4 YPC) and 7 TDs. As a sophomore he broke out. In 9 games, Desinor carried the ball 117 times for 1,248(10.7 YPC) yards and 16 TDs. Desinor transferred out and took his talents to American Heritage.
As a Junior at American Heritage in 12 games, Desinor carried the ball 67 times for 674 yards(10.1 YPC) and 10 TDs. Some may look at this and think what happened to his production? Well, he splits the back field with fellow rising Senior Byron Louis.
The big difference for Desinor compared to Louis is that Louis has played at American Heritage his whole HS career, so the coaches already knew him. Look at the two statistically though, Desinor was a more effective runner, producing his 2nd straight season over 10 YPC. Whereas Desinor is RB25 in the 2025 class, Louis is actually RB24 interestingly enough. With one year at American Heritage under his belt now we would expect his touches and stats to increase in the 2024 season.
When Desinor committed to West Virginia he said “I don’t feel as if there’s any other place better where I can be developed.” That’s a pretty outlandish statement from a football perspective, as we can’t think of a West Virginia RB to significantly play in the NFL or quite frankly even play at an elite level at the college rank.
With the exception of Colorado who lost their top four RBs to the Portal, Louisville and Oregon literally just sent RBs into the draft. Oregon sent Bucky Irving who got drafted by Tampa Bay and Louisville sent Jawhar Jordan and Isaac Guerendo, who got drafted by Houston and San Francisco respectively. Louisville doesn’t really have a history of sending RBs into the league either. Oregon does with names like: Kenjon Barner, LeGarrette Blount, Royce Freeman, LaMichael James, Jonathan Stewart, and De’Anthony Thomas. Yes, some of them didn’t workout as starters, but have hung around as backups/special teamers at the very least.
That’s not even counting teams who weren’t in Desinor’s Top 4 schools. Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Penn State, Ohio State just to name a few. Unless he is talking about personal and academic development in that statement too, his statement is kind of wild. If he is as good as his 10 YPC suggests, a team who develops backs would’ve offered him with the intent to Redshirt and develop for the future. Of the four teams, we mentioned Penn State is the only program that offered him.
Regardless, at the end of the day Desinor made the decision that he felt was his best interest and we wish him nothing but the best of luck heading into his Senior season and future collegiate career.
