In our final Interior Offensive Linemen Ranking, Georgia’s Sedrick Van Pran jumped six spots into the No. 4 IOL spot. Now, our rankings are decided based on both grade(the prospect we think they are) mixed with what we believe their ceiling could be. Having SVP as our IOL4 was pretty heavily upside based. The positive is that SVP has a lot of the intangible things: he’s athletic, moves well, quick, pretty strong, he has the mental piece, and he’s a leader.
When you watch Georgia tape, you see SVP get the job done. That being said, there’s a lot to clean up in his game mechanically/technique wise. He’s a pretty heavy leaner, he struggles to get hands on and sustain at the 2nd level, his hand placement/”strike point” is inconsistent, and his awareness can be really bad on some snaps.
An ideal landing spot for Van Pran needed to be a team with a history of developing linemen: the Eagles, Cowboys, and Patriots to name a few. The Bills don’t have the greatest track record of developing linemen, it feels like they are pretty vet heavy, and not home grown vets. The other reason we think this isn’t a great marriage is because unless the Bills plan on converting one of their guards, SVP is in a position where Buffalo needs him to start now, meaning having to develop on the fly. We think Buffalo might get a good(not great player), but we don’t feel his ceiling will be reached the way it could’ve elsewhere.
