The Eagles drafted two linemen in the 2024 Draft, but not in the conventional Philly way. Howie Roseman and staff actually waited until Day 3, Rounds 5 and 6, to bolster their OL. With the 172nd pick in Round 5 they took Michigan’s Trevor Keegan. We didn’t get a chance to scout Keegan, but with Zach being a Michigan fan and Jack just watching a lot of college football. Keegan is the type of player you’d expect to either be with Dan Campbell in Detroit or here in Philly. He’s big, he plays nasty, and he wears that big neck collar… that’s exactly what Philly fans like to see. Look the part, play the part. Keegan may or may not compete for time as a rookie, but you know he’s going to get the development he needs in Philly.
In the 6th Round the Eagles took NC State Center Dylan McMahon. Now, let’s talk about it. This is a steal in every sense of the word. Let’s talk quickly about McMahon as a prospect. Let’s start with the negatives: He’s small. There’s small and then there’s Dylan McMahon small. He looks like a big TE on film. In pass pro, you can see the strength imbalance show up on tape. Even when he can hold his ground in pass pro, it doesn’t feel like he can hold it as long as others. Now to the positives: McMahon is a big time effort player. He is a great example of “it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog”. He’s also a pretty good second level blocker, BUT the big if is whether he can get off the line to get there.
We put a “top tier backup” grade and “Day 2” projection on McMahon, but that was more so if any of the 32 teams drafted him. We thought he could start for the right team and we would consider the Eagles one of those teams. The Eagles just had an “undersized”, athletic center retire… just saying. We know the projection is for Jurgens to go to Center and Tyler Steen to take the RG spot, BUT we believe that Dylan McMahon is a name you should keep your eye on to be a starter on this Eagles line this upcoming season.
