2024 NFL Draft’s Best Prospect Team Fits: Packers Defensive Load Up

As someone who loves the defensive side of the football much more than the offense, I can not describe to you how ecstatic I was about the Packers draft class and I’m not even a Packers fan. The Packers didn’t really add anything to the defensive line although they already had

Defensive End

  • Rashan Gary
  • Preston Smith
  • Lukas Van Ness
  • Kingsley Enagbare
  • Colby Wooden

Defensive Tackle

  • Kenny Clark
  • Devonte Wyatt
  • TJ Slaton
  • Karl Brooks

On the second level they rolled into the Draft with Quay Walker and Isaiah McDuffie. In the 2nd Round they added Edgerrin Cooper and in the 3rd they added Ty’Ron Hopper. They are our LBs 5 and 2 respectively. With it sounding like the Packers are going to a 4-3 they now have 4 to play 3 spots. We suspect that it will be Walker and Cooper as starters with Hopper coming in as the 3rd on base packages. That’s assuming Walker doesn’t get moved, which we feel could happen with two Day 2 backers being drafted. We think the Cooper pick is a really good fit for GB considering it sounds like they still aren’t too thrilled with Walker’s development in coverage. The Hopper pick is a good fit too as well as feeling he’s similar to Walker in ways. Again, assuming they keep Walker, the Pack should have a really fun rotation of LBs to use and watch play.

Now for the secondary, we don’t think some people truly understand what the Packers just did. Look at what new DC Jeff Hafley has to play with:

Cornerback

  • Jaire Alexander
  • Eric Stokes
  • Carrington Valentine
  • Kalen King

Nickel

  • Javon Bullard
  • Keisean Nixon

Safety

  • Xavier McKinney
  • Evan Williams
  • Kitan Oladapo

That’s not even to mention that King, Bullard, McKinney, Williams, and possibly Oladapo(didn’t watch him) are secondary flexible. We think King could play better as a safety or nickel, although played CB in college. Bullard can play any DB spot. McKinney and Williams can play free, strong, or in the box as a nickel defender. The amount of looks in just the secondary that Green Bay could give is scary. The Packers, on paper at least, look like they finally have a defense to pair with the now Jordan Love era of offense in GB.
