2023 NFL Draft: Worst Picks of Day 3

These are our worst picks on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Chicago Bears(Pick 148)- Noah Sewell, LB, Oregon

This has more to do with the fit of Sewell in Chicago’s defense than Sewell as a prospect. Sewell does have some things to clean up and lacks elite athleticism. We understand why he fell to the 5th round, we don’t have a problem with that. We think Sewell can compete to start on day one though. Edmunds, Edwards, Sanborn… Sewell isn’t beating these guys for a spot. We also wanted to see Sewell in a 3-4 scheme because if his lack of athleticism rears its ugly head we thought Sewell could make the transition to a 3-4 OLB which isn’t an option in Chicago.

Green Bay Packers(Pick 149)- Sean Clifford, QB, Penn State

He should have been undrafted. Clearly Green Bay needs a backup to Jordan Love but this feels way too early for Clifford. Other QBs should have gone here. Daniel Jerimiah summed it up great when he said “cant believed they picked this guy”.

Green Bay Packers(Pick 116)- Colby Wooden, DL, Auburn

Green Bay already addressed the pass rush and go with a guy that has major effort issues. He is a tweener that may not play a much different roll from Wyatt.

New Orleans Saint(Pick 127)- Jake Haener, QB, Fresno State

If the Saints wanted to take a qb to develop, multiple other QBs have a higher ceiling than Haener. Tune, DTR, and more would have been better selections.

Minnesota Vikings(Pick 164)- Jaren Hall, QB, BYU

It feels like Minnesota should have left this draft with a high level backup and they get Hall. He is old, lacks arm strength, and was not impressive on film. We see them going back to the well next year.

Arizona Cardinals(Pick 168)- Owen Pappoe, LB, Auburn

We like Pappoe as a prospect, he’s yet another one we were higher on than most. Pappoe flashed on film, but wasn’t as consistent as you’d hope. Despite the inconsistencies we thought he could be a day one starter to some capacity. That doesn’t seem likely in a room that includes Zaven Collins, Kyzir White, Krys Barnes, and Isaiah Simmons(depending on what Gannon has planned for him). The positive is that he’ll have time to develop, but could wait for playing time/starting role much longer than he should.

Philadelphia Eagles(Pick 188)- Tanner McKee, QB, Stanford

This does not make sense. If you wanted a long shot backup at least pick one that fits your system. McKee is literally Carson Strong with worse pocket presence. Its the 6th round so it is not a big deal but McKee is one of the most immobile quarterbacks in this draft.
