The cornerbacks but on a show in the athletic testing, with incredible jumps, 40 yard dashes, and 10 yard splits. The safeties as a whole were more disappointing. With that being said here are our NFL Combine Winners from day 2
Christian Gonzales
Gonzales went into the combine as our cornerback one, and is leaving as (most likely) the unanimous CB1 on most boards. He tested incredibly well. His 40 was not only 4.38 with a 1.54 split, but it was one of the smoothest 40 yard dashes that you will ever see. He also jumped a ridiculous 41.5 inch vertical and looked great in positional drills.
Riley Moss
Moss tested better than we could have imagined, with a 4.45 40 and a ridiculous 1.48 split. Where he really shined, though, was the positional drills. He looked smooth and fluid and definitely helped his draft stock.
Clark Phillips
Despite average athletic testing, Phillips really looked good in the drills. As a nickel, elite athleticism is not his calling card, but being able to read and react is. He showed these skills and more in the db workouts.
Deonte Banks
Perhaps the best overall testing of any defensive back today. Banks weighed in at almost 200 pounds, ran a 4.35 40, had the best vertical, and second best broad jump. He is likely rising up draft boards after this performance.
Jartavius Martin
The most impressive safety from a testing point of view is easily Martin. He had the third best 40 yard dash, and the best broad and vertical jumps. He is a hybrid player who still has a lot of room to grow from a football standpoint, but his potential will get him drafted earlier after this weekend.
